That would be a con-artist trying to rip you off for $700. You can get Blu-ray drives at Newegg for $200.

His link is for a burner. The $200 unit at NewEgg is a BluRay Player / DVD Burner. Not a BluRay burner. So no, that’s not a con artist.

You can get a nice bluray burner from FastMac.com for about $539. That’s the one we use.

    You’re right, my bad.

But they do falsely make it appear as though you need their’s for the new Mac Pro. That’s why I called it a con.

They’ve had this out for a while. They were one of the first, and the price never came down.
I imagine that they did tackle one problem: The Blu-Ray drives that are coming out have SATA interfaces, but the connections in the Mac Pro are EIDE. That could be a deal breaker if you tried to install one you bought in a store.

Very easy to wire a SATA cable up to the DVD drive. There are two extra SATA ports on the mother board. I ran a SATA cable from the closest connection on the logic board to the DVD drive bay up and into the DVD bays so I can plug in a hard drive or a SATA Blue Ray drive when the price drops a little more.

Note that there are SATA to IDE adapters available if you need one on a G5 or something.
