This news is what I have been waiting for. I have the 2.4 MacBook Pro.. So what would you recommend for a monitor,,, The Dell or Apple 23″ If I remember correctly the latest Dell has the DVi and HD component inputs priced at $600 bucks…
Did I read on DVXuser that you are the proud owner of a new HVX200?? If so, welcome to the party. I have had mine only 6 weeks and it is making HD Spots and HD money…. but don’t tell any of those PC-Sony guys…

Hang on there Ron,,,, I know it is so slow out there,, but I am waiting for NAB specials on the Mac Pro before I spring for a new edit Mac and a new raid array.. And a couple more months holding that “will raid for food” sign at the freeway ramp might just make for an extra bonus price on your Max Store Sata raid that old Walter B has been bragging about.
My only question about the your Max Store raid is; Has it passed the Wally drop test yet???

With your three camera HVX200 setup, How are you getting to the switcher. What are your run lengths. What switcher did you buy? What is your master program (switcher out) HD recorder?Sounds like a great set up.. On your remote pan-tilt heads have you been able to get the ‘presets’ to work??

What I was addressing is that with the MacBookPro, You could finish the entire project on location and get client approval for the delivery, or burn the project to DVD..
We have had the HVX200 for less than 45 days and have chromakeyed, edited and was paid last Friday by the client. We used the HVX to firewire (32′) to the Mac Book Pro recorded to mirrored external 2.5″ sata 160gig drives. In our city, nobody is accepting HD TV Spot Masters, so I found the best clip (screaming politician) exported it from Final Cut as a non-compressed 8 bit Ntsc 720×486 file, burned that to a DVD rom. I imported that to my OLd DUal gig Mac- Cinewave RT (yes Cinewave still lives) and did my compositing and final edit on a big 23 inch screen.. The Mac Book Pro 15″ is a little small for detail work, like chroma key crust. Veescopelive will not work on my G4 Mac. And I did notice to much green crust-edges on the talent. So I keyed the talent/client over blue, exported movie and used the blue version for final compositing.
I was amazed at the detail the HVX200 was able to capture, All on auto, auto focus, auto white, auto iris, auto money in the bank.. Way cool.
Which all means that when I read the manual, I should be able to get even more detail out of this little camera…
The Company, Tape Central, that I purchased it from said that they sold over 27 of these cameras from the end of December to the first of February. Most of them as a Chromakey package. It is great to be AHEAD of a trend for once..

Interesting tho, When I was thinking of buying the HPX500 before Xmas and was talking with a Panny Rep on the phone doing the 100 question routine. We did talk about hvx200 and he asked if the Hvx200 had HD-SDI out would it make a difference to me.
So I would not be surprised if the HVX200 had HD-SDI out as of NAB ’08.
I am hoping that the HPX500 has the AVC-intra codec as of NAB’08 and the same price.
And the 16gig P2 card is under $500.. Buy 3 16g P2 cards for a Grand $1,000.. I would place my order today. Heck, I would add Panasonic to my Xmas card list, too.

Scott, It is audio, expect anything. I was on the 13 floor of an office building for a 2 day shoot last week. We kept getting radio thru our Sennheiser shotgun mic, but only in the morning,, not in the afternoon.. And the placement of the mic in the room also made a difference in the reception of our friendly Country Western radio station.
Now how do you explain audio mysteries to a clueless client? They will never want to hear about it.

Is the AVC codec full 422 color space.. I thought it was 421, similar to Sony Xdcam…
Does AVC key as well as plain old DVCpro hd? I understood the design behind AVC was just more recording time on the P2 cards.
