Has anybody heard anything about what Panasonic might be releasing for NAB in terms of cameras that would be similar to or an update of the HVX-200? I was visiting B&H a few weeks ago and they suggested that since it’s 2 years since the release of the camera, the demise of the Vericam (their words, not mine), and how hard Sony is pushing vendors to push the EX1, they are guessing that some kind of update might be coming from Panasonic NAB time. Personally, I haven’t heard anything, but since I’m far from the center of these things, I thought I’d put it out there.

    Jeff,

They have a squad out there for guys who start NAB rumors two months too soon ;-\

Interesting tho, When I was thinking of buying the HPX500 before Xmas and was talking with a Panny Rep on the phone doing the 100 question routine. We did talk about hvx200 and he asked if the Hvx200 had HD-SDI out would it make a difference to me.

So I would not be surprised if the HVX200 had HD-SDI out as of NAB ’08.

I am hoping that the HPX500 has the AVC-intra codec as of NAB’08 and the same price.

And the 16gig P2 card is under $500.. Buy 3 16g P2 cards for a Grand $1,000.. I would place my order today. Heck, I would add Panasonic to my Xmas card list, too.

( It’s Ok my doors are locked)

Those all sound nice but the one thing that I can almost assure you is that you will never see P2 cards for $500 new. They always seem to discontinue the smallest one in favor of keeping the price up. When I mentioned this before I was told that one possibility reason for this is the high demand on the cards so why should they waste time making the smaller ones.

So when the 64’s come out say goodbye to the 16’s. 32’s for $1000 and the 64’s $$$$. That has been the results for the last couple of changes. I would love to see $500 for 16’s $1000, 32’s and so on, but I doubt it.

The 8GB card carried a list price of $550 before it was discontinued.

I expect the 16GB card to drop to $500 before too long.

Hey Barry, we’ll see about that. I went to buy an 8 gig when the 16’s replaced the 8’s price. The prices were still full price and not $500 when the old stock was begin sold off. Maybe used on ebay but not new.

But that is good news if that is true, I could not find anything.

    Thanks,

Maybe the dealer was still selling off inventory and felt it better to try and recoup more money than be happy with getting anything at all. Then again, I’ve seen some dealers post astronomical prices counting on those buyers who don’t perform a price comparison.

    Don’t forget… the original 2GB P2 cards were something like $2500.00 ea. Today it’s 32GB @ $1500.00!

Certainly I appreciate the feedback on P2 cards, but I was wondering if anybody out there has heard anything else about any possible impending updates to the HVX-200.

Oops. I crossed wires between NAB 2006 and 2007. At NAB 2007 the announcement was made, the MSRP of 8GB cards dropped from $1200 to $700 (not $550) and the 16GB cards were introduced at $900.

At NAB 2006, the 4GB cards were dropped to an MSRP of $550. So while 550 isn’t 500, it has happened before that prices have been in the ballpark of $500.

I’m hoping that’ll happen again. But keep in mind the 8GB cards fell from $1200 to $700; the 16GB cards are already starting out at $900 so an equivalent price drop (hopefully at NAB 2008?) would put them right at about $500 or so.
