AFAIK I know it is only used for preview purposes. You should not hope to achieve miracles, but I believe the have one or two accelerated effects that even work in AE. However, in light of AE itself being able to accelerate effects with graphics hardware (a trend which is surely going to manifest itself even more in future versions) and NucleoPro being around, you most likely would be better off investing in a high-powered graphics card and a multicore/ multiprocessor system with lots of RAM for your AE work.

No, AFAIK know there’s no way to extract that info in a sensible way and re-use it.

No. AE is a compositing app, not an edit suite. It therefore lacks transport controls for tape machines as nobody nreally needs them (except for you, of course) ;-). Realize the difference between the two, and adapt your workflows accordingly and ye shall be happy.

  • Multiplexed files are not valid authoring files. Demux them like Frippy said. Simply renaming a VOB doesn’t make it a “clean” MPEG-II file, you know…

Make sure you enable audio on the output module. If you want to export your animation with transparency, you have to use a CoDec that supports Alpha channels which most AVIs don’t, so you probably have to switch to Quicktime for that and use PNG or Aniamtion compression.

[Jack Cook] “Object2 is a rough object, so the collision point isn’t in the same place each time. Also, I want Object1 to move at the same relative speed as it goes up and down, no matter how far it has to travel.”

Kind of sounds mutually exclusive – if your collision target is moving at a certain constant speed, the other object can’t do the same. It will inevitably move faster or slower depending on the distance it has to travel. As for implemneting it – well, the collision node outputs true/ flase (equal to on and off), so it could be plugged into another node to switch it. This could be anything from a monoflop to a range mapper. In the latter case your simply set the output range to -1 and 1 and then use those values to multiply your position Y values, the negative and positive effectively defining the direction vector. Unless your object is moving very fast, it’s not going to look too convincing, though, as it will be an abrupt change in speed.

Not sure what look you exactly want, but most of these plugins simply accumulate different pixel buffers to create streaks, so you could use the Echo effect applied to a precomp where your stuff is pumping to the music. Another trick often used is to create kaliedoscopic effects, which also could be done in several ways in aE either with plugins or manually. It really depends.

No, unless you assigned shortcuts yourself, the layouts can only be brought back by deleting the prefence files or re-installing.

Turn of texture filtering (will require you to crank antialiasing way up, so it may not be that sensible) or adjust your texture. Either make it slightly larger or fill the surrounding pixels with the same color as your current edges. This is called dilation and is a common requirement to hide texture seams.
