Are you using continuously rasterize/ collapse transformations properly? If you apply it to your imported bitmap layers it has a different meaning than on vector based layers or solids. Check this, I’m sure somewhere you are using one such switch that screws AE’s rendering order and flattens your folded comp.

Are you sure the dimensions of the comps are comparable? If you have pre-comp that occupies more space than the main comp provides, layers may still overlap.

Sure. Just import your pre-formatted lists or type it in directly. It’s all explained in the help.

Like Arson said – separate the color channels using Shift Channel, add Noise and other effects to them separately, then blend them back together by overlaying them in Add mode. For fast forward effects you may also consider using the Time Displacement effect to get the streaky look with some parts of the immage seeming to lag behind.

This is more a matter of planning the shoot rather than compositing. You need to measure out your scene, then place marks on which you stand and move while shooting. For the mirror you more or less only need an empty frame as a placeholder. It really only comes down to you being able to repeat all actions with as perfect a timing as you can. You should also shoot some clean plate of your location or have bluescreens behind you, so you can fix/ replace the background in the mirror. If the mirror frame or the camera is moving, you may need to have some additional track marks in your scene.

Check your clipboard settings in Illu. The must be set to AICB, not PDF-compliant. Maybe you somehow reset it.

Dunno what it’s called exactly off the top of my head, but somewhere in the shading section there is an option to either only render the inside or the outside shell or both.

Only one sub-picture track can be active at any given time AFAIK. Most likely the other programs simply convert the text differntly and split it up into even more subpictures to accomodate such overlaps. You would have to do the same – where text overlaps, create a subpicture to accomodate everything. Other programs such as Scenarits also allow TC based switching between different subpicture tracks, but it requires parameter programming which is not available in Encore.

There is no such thing as perfect seamlessness with DVD (video). Even if it looks perfect on the computer, it may not work on standalone players. You are simply approaching this the wrong way. If you want to stick with your current setup, make sure your menu-transition coincides with an I-frame of a GOP (12 frames). That’s the only way to be sure – there will still be a slight delay, but it will show the last valid frame instead of black. To make it even better, simply leave the transition and the menu as one clip. have this play once completely, then use the end action to define the loop point where it shal jump back to your menu (which can be any placce you like).

No, absolutely not. If AE could handle 3D models, you wouldn’t need a 3D program. Simple as that. You need to understand the conceptual differences and read up on them. And no, even 3D programs do not boast fully interactive shading. You still have to render. If you were hoping to somehow get quicker turnarounds by getting something similar to what AE does with it’s simplistic lighting scheme, you were wrong.
