  • Why is Encore transcoding footage already at DVD spec????

    Hey Guys,

I’m real stumped here…I have footage that was recorded into a DVD recorder and I’m taking the clip and authoring a menu onto it.

For some reason when I put the footage into my project window, go into the transcode settings and set it to *don’t transcode*. It still transcodes the footage when I build the DVD. It is 720 x 480 29.97 with multi-plexed AC3 audio, with the extension .VOB (I’ve changed it to m2v and to mpg…but neither does anything different)

I even went into the project to the …Cache\Temp_Transcodes folder and used the already transcoded m2v file and it still re-transcoded it.

    Any ideas?

Multiplexed files are not valid authoring files. Demux them like Frippy said. Simply renaming a VOB doesn’t make it a “clean” MPEG-II file, you know…

Additionally, DVD recorders are often not DVD-Video compliant either.
