[CRUISE] “I don’t want to subtract from the other mask, I just want to add another mask in a different spot.”
Umm, but that’s exactly what those modes are for! They don’t operate on other masks, but the pixels of the layer. You need to get away from your illustrator logic.

Yes, that’s quite normal and its slowness is effectively what has made people hate PPG and opened up a market for third-party solutions, as half-assed as some of them are. If you ever have such a job again, shelve out the money for Particular – it’s undoubtedly as good as any particle system inside AE can ever get considering the limitations of AE itself.

Yes, this is certainly acceptable, julian, but why not just aniamte a prototype layer and reference all other layers to it?

Depends on what modules you have, I suppose. The bending could be done easily using the wrap deformer set to sphere mode. for the cloning of cours MoGraph lends itself, but any other tool that can do cloning like DiTools for instance will work as well.

Scrolling is not possible. This kind of stuff is not supported by the DVD specs. Either build an entirely auto-animating scroll in After Effects or build 100 menus with auto action and small scrolling transitions between them.

Building everything in 16:9 is much smarter. In addition to the reasons the others have given, a horizontal crop does not cause any field issues. This may become relevant if the footage at a later point needs to be re-edited or integrated in another project and it only exists on tape because the original media files are long gone.

[recon007jf] “I have tried setting the position of the displacement image and pre-composing, didn’t work.”
Because you did it the wrong way, presumably. Keep in mind those 2 simple rules:
a) Ideally, always match the sizes of your displacement map to the footage
b) Displacement works on pixel values. A black composition background has no “real” pixels, it’s transparent and thus ignored by displacement maps. Place a 50% grey, pure white or pure black layer behind your other footage to get proper results.Beyond that, there is not really that much to consider.

Mmh, I don’t really see your problem. If it’s supposed to be unaffected by the cam move, it effectively behaves like a 2D layer. So why not simply pre-compose (like Steve said already)?

Modify your stroke based on screen angle or the facing angles in your objects. This does not completely eliminate the overshoot, though. also check your model. Sounds to me like you are also using very fine details in some areas which cause multiple strokes to appear in the same place (each edge gets a stroke, but the edges are smaller than the strokes themselves, so they overlap).

[Percheron] “I will get more quality with any method?”
No, not if you are dependant on the DVD playback. Those standards are fixed and cannot be changed even minutely. you have to work with what you have. Like Chris said, playing back from HDV tape or a HD-res clip from a PC would be an alternative, but the projector has to support the resolution. Anyway, 2×2 m is pretty small, so DVD should be more than enough.
[Percheron] “Also about the subtitles, they are 14px. Its that enough? In the dv preview on the monitor looks quite nice.”
If you embed them in the video, it should suffice. Depending on the font you use, you may play it safe and increase the size slightly to 16 px or 18 px to avoid flickering on Playback from the DVD (which is going to be interlaced).
