No idea, but check the settings for your compression CoDec. Maybe you are using some poorly adjusted Sorenson or something.

  • Unless otherwise specified, still layers have an infinite duration. Import your PSD as a comp, set the out-point of all layers to 6 sec, then stagger them using the Sequence Layers keyframe assistant.

January 29, 2007 at 8:29 am in reply to: adding motion to noise shaders…

    [Justin Rank]
I’m working on a force field in C4D and would like to know if anybody has a couple suggestions regarding noise shaders. Despite my best efforts, the shader always looks too much like noise and less like a caustic-like effect.”

Most likely you are taking too simple an approach. Work with layered shaders and multiple instances of noise. Add Levels, Fresnel, Colorizer and other effects to control coloring and contrast.

[Justin Rank] “I also need help on figuring out how to make the noise move…since I’m coming from After Effects, it’s my understanding that you ‘should’ be able to make the noise animate, I just haven’t figured it out.”

You can animate any parameter that exposes a hollow grey circle before it, so you should not have any problem getting some mortion in it by animating UV offset or global/ local scale.

Add a display tag and animate the visibility parameters.

It means your graphics card has not enough RAM to store the image/ texture.

[cbleslie] “I was wondering if it’s possible to parent a vertex (Multiple vertexes?) of a mask to a layer? The reason I ask is I would like to treat the parented layer as sort of a controller for the points of the mask.”

No. The workarounds the others suggested is your only option.

[cbleslie] “It seems like it would be a useful in many situations, and I am surprised that adobe (if they haven’t already) has yet to implement such a feature.”

Any speculation on Adobe’s development policy is beside the point. It’s unproductive and if you are really feeling not comfortable with AE, then ask yourself if it is the right tool for the job at hand. It’ not that there are other tools on the planet, is it? *hint, hint* ;o) I know it sucks, but there’s nothing you can do about it.

  • To give a clean technical answer to your problem: expression references are absolute based on the names/ strings defined in them. Different controls/ comps/ layers need to have unique names inside a project if they are to be controlled by different sets of expressions. You possibly can’t avoid renaming your stuff whenever you intend to merge two or more of your setups.

You can have control layers in whatever comp you desire. Just point your effects to it using comp(“X”).layer(“Y”).effect(“Laser Control”)(“Slider”) instead of doing the same with thisComp().

Unless computers have become sentient over night and actually understand the menaing of words (which I doubt) – no. not sure why you’d want to overcomplicate this simple setup. The words pop in with hard cuts, so timing is simple and multiplying them can be doen easily using motion Tile or similar effects (you may need to pre-compose).

You’d have to build a series of small clips that each represent one of the buttons as it’s activated. then instead jumping to the linked movies directly, you take a small detour over the fake activated states.
