Try 3DStroke as suggested or create text on paths (there is a separation dot in any standard font that can be used).

  • Should be no problem. Export the animation as a *.mot or generic ASCII export from Maya, load it into Excel and reformat it, then copy & paste to AE. Never tried it, but I guess this is how it could be achieved most easily. Someone might even already have written a MEL script to spit out properly formatted stuff from Maya.

Check the geometric resolution of your objects and LOD levels, e.g. if Splines have small “Adaptive” angles, HN settings are high, primitives have high settings etc.. Viewport rendering uses a much cruder resolution than the actual frame render. Take down all such settings to the bare minimum or S&T will take forever to trace aall segments. No point in having a segment if it’s smaller than 1 pixel in the final render, if you get my meaning.

Assuming you have R10, use layers and lock them. The protection tag only inhibits simple transforms and it doesn’t really prevent anything from getting selected.

This is a limitation in the 3Ds format and how it storres pivot points/ object axes. Off the top of my head I’m not sure if C4D has an option for this in the import prefs, but if yes, it should be something like “reset transforms”.

You can’t have both. Either use the Spline Wrap or the effector. If you use the Spline Wrap, the cloner should be a simple linear cloner.

January 30, 2007 at 8:04 am in reply to: How Hard Is It to Create 3D Metallic Text Like This?

Metals live by their reflections and specularity. most metals don’t have any color of their own (in physical terms) so your main problem will be to find textures and create scenery that reflects in your metal.

I don’t think you’ll get what you want this way. The problem is that S&T’s routines always see the entire spline and work relative to the overall length. You probably have more luck by splitting up your splines in segments and have them animate individually. Might be a bit clunkier, but with some simple XPresso/ driven key animation it would still be managable.

Like arson said, it won’t work unless you have all the same versions. AE 6.5 has no hooks to Bridge, so it doesn’t know what to do with it.

[espinoza] “4 – can net render render movie files as well as image sequences?

No. Rendering movies would require multiple systems accessing the same files in write mode, which is an impossibility on most OSs. has nothing to do with C4D, simple computer thing.

    [espinoza]
also, is there a way to set net renders output to be the path set up in the render settings?”

Not directly. You can work with links or hack the resource files.

[espinoza] “how can i make the grass have more random strengh/rigidity, so it doesnt all behave in the same way”

Use textures for your hair parameters.

[espinoza] “show animated in the timeline doesnt show all the things that i have animated. i select all the objects, then show animated?”

Check if all your layers are actually set to show deformations, particles etc. Also check LOD settings.

[espinoza] “why does it react strongly at first and then tape off in its movement [there are no keyframes for wind and turb.]”

Normal behavior. Check the hair material settings to minimize the damping. Also animate the forces (positions, parameters). Hair seems to ignore forces that do not have any animation attached to them. Could be a bug.
