…so, I selected all, added a Protection tag to all, then added a display tag and put 0% in visibility.

Selected the one grouping I wanted to work on, deleted the Protection tag and the display tag. Now I have the one object with all its pieces visible and ready for editing.

Somehow though, I click in a ‘blank’ area and something is getting selected. Scrolling through the Object Manager, I can’t see anything in red. Especially within the grouping that should be the only grouping to be edited.

Any ideas on what’s going on?

is there a better way to hide and lock other objects in a scene so as not to disturb surrounding elements?

    Thanks

Assuming you have R10, use layers and lock them. The protection tag only inhibits simple transforms and it doesn’t really prevent anything from getting selected.

I have 8.5, but thanks for the response. For what I’m doing, the tag is working.

    Thanks again
