Well.. here’s what i’m trying to accomplish. I have this great robot that is modeled in Maya. I want it to write a text in free space. De text should be written with the trapcode particular plugin. In the tutorial of the plugin the emitter is linked to the light. So My guess would be to export the motion from Maya to AE and link the light to the motionpath.

So in Maya i’m going to animate the finger of the robot along an motionpath. This motionpath is the text he’s going to write. It would be great if I could export this animationpath (or a locator that is paranted) to AE so i can link the trapcode plugin to it.

Hope you kind of get the idea what i’m trying to do here. Is this possible like the way I want to do this or should I do this differently.

Should be no problem. Export the animation as a *.mot or generic ASCII export from Maya, load it into Excel and reformat it, then copy & paste to AE. Never tried it, but I guess this is how it could be achieved most easily. Someone might even already have written a MEL script to spit out properly formatted stuff from Maya.
