  • Importing .3ds and/or Poser 5 files..

Posted by Kelly Johnson on January 29, 2007 at 9:01 pm

I got some files that work pretty well inside C4d 8.5.

But, one .3ds file has a building that has some ‘exploded’ parts ie.. roof/walls and windows are out. There are about 30 or so pieces that need to be adjusted and the pieces are not labeled in the Object manager. Add to that, about 300 other parts/pieces and widgets that are fine and navigating through everything to make sure the pieces are moved along the right axis is difficult.

I have the files in Poser 3 format (with Poser 5) as well as.3ds.

Any tips on exporting to avoid the ‘blow-out’ of parts?

    Thanks

This is a limitation in the 3Ds format and how it storres pivot points/ object axes. Off the top of my head I’m not sure if C4D has an option for this in the import prefs, but if yes, it should be something like “reset transforms”.
