Nope. Licensing issues for the fonts themselves aside, they have to be “known” to the system and the only means of doing so are using the tools you describe or physically copy the font files to the proper directories. In some situations you can embed them into Illustrator, PDF and PSD files and that will also make them magically appear in the font lists of the system and they can even be used in other apps (temporarily), but considering that it’s not always practical to have the mentioned programs running all the time in addition to AE, it may not be an option.

Copy your mask to the clipboard, select the position property of the bud, paste. Adjust the timing. Done.

No, tabs are not supported in text layers. You need to have separate layers.

Short and simple answer: Parenting, not scripts/ expressions. think it thru. Use the text layer’s anchor point for the left turn, parent it to a Null object for the rigzt turn. By counteranimating with each waltz cycle, you get the same result.

Well, you could get a dedicated roto-tool like SilhouetteRoto… Have never used it myself since I don’t do much stuff of the type, but people who have speak highly of it.

June 27, 2006 at 4:57 am in reply to: to Mylenium: how to make the DVD menu created in After Effects work in Encore DVDWhile Justin already provided some clues, let me clarify:
[michel882003] “1, in Encore DVD, File/Import as/Menu. It wouldn’t import at all, it only import PSD and EM files.”
That is correct. You cannot directly import AE files into Encore.
[michel882003] “2, in Encore DVD, File/adobe dynamic link/Import After Effects Compostion.
It did import the AE comp. But I can not make it function as a menu.”Yes, again your observations are right. Encore will only use the “flattened” output of AE’s Dynamic link, meaning it does not see the internal structure of the project (layers), only it’s final pixel buffer (composition).
[michel882003] “3, in After effects, render the dvd menu comp to a video(avi) and import to encore DVD. It only works as a background for other still DVD menu. The button made in after effects is not working as expected.”
Well, it always involves two steps:
a) Render out the background as a motion menu.
b) Use the “Save as Photoshop layers” function to save the actual menu. As explained above, Encore cannot see inside the AE project and rendering a movie will act just like using the Dynamic Link option – it makes everything “flat” (in technical terms).
Basically all that you are doing when building a menu in AE is pre-define the structure of the buttons just with the added convenience ofg having the background item with full motion as reference. In Photoshop you’d do just the same, but need to use a still as a placeholder. More down to the point: all that really matters to encore is the naming of the layers, it simply doesn’t care where and how you create your menu.

[scyldb] “so is it the filter that causes the blurriness? the resolution is pretty big.”
It would seem this way. Filtering in AE is nothing more than a simple blur-like smoothing and will soften your image. Have you checked if you are not using excessive DOF or your camera has a very tight lens? this could also cause similar effects.

I don’t quite get what you mean. Your post sounds a bit paradox. Do you mean that your objects shall home in on the “leader” from their initial positions and only then form a trail/ swarm? That would be pretty tricky to do, since it’s close to impossible to get smooth movement just with expressions. How many objects are we talking about? Would it be sufficient to blend between different manually animated motions? Have you looked into using particle systems?
