    Hi!

I am trying to make a flower type object using 3dStroke to create the “stem” and was wondering if they’re is anyway to attach another layer to the tip of the stroke to act as the bud, and attach it in such a way that it is parented to the end point of the stroke. It would seem that there should be a way to access the position value of each point on the path and link to it via parenting or expressions but so far its eluding me.. Anyone have any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

Copy your mask to the clipboard, select the position property of the bud, paste. Adjust the timing. Done.

That does work for animating the object along the length of the path even as the path moves, but what i want to do is have the object move along with the end of the stalk, to move with the end point of the path (top of the stalk). What i need is the ability to get the position values of that one point on the masks path… similar to tracking the end of the stalk. Sorry, should have been more clear in the first post.. Thanks for the input though…

I think I understood your question just fine and I would still use this approach, simply because there isn’t really a tool that can interactively track vertex positions of masks. The only plugin that provides such funtionality (and is publicly available) would be Expression Effects from Bresnev Shu and even though they still sell them here https://order.kagi.com/cgi-bin/store.cgi?storeID=HTN&&,
in my view the whole thing is fishy since there is no proper way to contact the developer and thus get support. If you have the 100 bucks, go ahead, it’s really your only solution. If not, just use the copy&paste routine – while it’s not perfect, I suppose it’s much easier to adjust just a few keyframes than going thru the process of tracking with all the problems that brings.

Alrighty, I’ll look into it.. I think i might have found a solution using tracking…maybe! Thanks again for your time!

I’m guessing that you’re animating the shape of the mask, correct? If so, tracking should work, or a script could apply the position of the end vertex at each frame to your bud layer’s position. A bit of work, but certainly educational. 🙂
