Why not simply use The Smoother palette?

Copy&Paste should work as well. Dunno why it’s giving you crashes. Perhaps you are using a video hardware with associated CoDec that AE doesn’t like? For the time being, Dynamic Link only works one way – from AE to other programs. There is no such thing as a perfect roundtrip implementation though I can see that some people would like to have it.

You should be able to import all Premiere projects into AE including markers, basic crossfades and audio. However, the overall number of markers is limited in AE, so you will never have them all at once.

Have you played with Soundkeys’ falloff settings? that would be the simplest way. Other than that there is a .smooth() method in AE, but I don’t think it does work too well with temporal data. Haven’t tried yet…

  • So shatter doesn’t recognize text characters created within AE itself?

No, it doesn’t, since the text is treated as bitmap layers, meaning Shatter has no chance of detecting unique contiguous shapes/ contours. This is more a limitation of Shatter rather than being a problem of the text (if you could tell shatter to e.g. use text animators, things would be easy).

  • The simplest solution is to import your shape as a vector file. Shatter will recognize individual entities/ letters if you use the same vector as a shatter shape reference. Use the continuously rasterize switch to make sure of that. For the time reversal you need to pre-compose, therE’s no way around that.

I think I understood your question just fine and I would still use this approach, simply because there isn’t really a tool that can interactively track vertex positions of masks. The only plugin that provides such funtionality (and is publicly available) would be Expression Effects from Bresnev Shu and even though they still sell them here https://order.kagi.com/cgi-bin/store.cgi?storeID=HTN&&,
in my view the whole thing is fishy since there is no proper way to contact the developer and thus get support. If you have the 100 bucks, go ahead, it’s really your only solution. If not, just use the copy&paste routine – while it’s not perfect, I suppose it’s much easier to adjust just a few keyframes than going thru the process of tracking with all the problems that brings.
