Make sure your DVD-player is setup properly. Many models don’t auto-switch between different ratios properly, you have to manually configure them.

Knoll Unmult, Walker Alpha Tool or most simply you could have started out telling your brushes to als work on Alpha and use a respective output module in AE…

  • Well, cleanup may not at all be the solution here. More likely you can get much better results by doing some cheap trickery. Try this:

    a) duplicate your keyed footage.
    b) erode it until you get to acceptable clean colored areas
    c) dilate those clean edges using the MiniMax effect until they fill up the missing areas.
    b) blur the layer
    d) use yet another duplicate as a matte (inverted Alpha) for your color layer
    e) erode and blur the matte, until your color layer gives a nice “Inner Glow”

After that, you only need to play with blendmodes and adjust the hue of your color layer. Multiply, Overlay and Color do wonders. Mind you, the only objective here is to hide the spill, not really get rid of it, but in most cases this is more than sufficient.

  • This is a generic memory problem. It could quite well be that the AVI-CoDec you are trying to use is to blame – AE isn’t exactly good at handling some stuff used by capture cards and the AVI format itself is very limited and full of implementation flaws and meory leaks. It’s close to impossible to pin down such problems, so the smart move would be to switch ti QT or image sequences and convert them to your AVI e.g. using VirtualDub.

You need to register your MPEG-II Encoder on the Adobe website. Can’t remember how (only did so once, but we mainly use other tools to convert to MPEG-II so I didn’t use it much), but it should be explained in the help files somewhere. The MPEG Encoder will spit out some code and in return you will get an activation code on the Adobe website.

Look at AEnhancers.com. I’m sure you can find soem basic “keyframe manager” script there or on one of the sites of the members there and adjust it to your liking. Other than that: No, AE has no way of recording macros/ actions, all automation is “real” programming work.

There is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to use all your footage. Make sure all your footage interpretations are set right and use VBR instead of CBR. Also take care that your footage only contains legal color levels (broadcast safe). Bad colors can make any transcoder go boom, not only Encore’s.

Do you check your files in external tools before loading them in Encore? Usually any stream problems show up this way – either the file doesn’t play at all or you can see artifacts on the damaged frames.

There are several free plugins out there that deal with axis placement such as AxisCenter and a few others. Do a quick google search and you will be sure to find them.
