    Mmh, that’s really odd, especially since they show up on higher-fps renders sans scannies. I’m afraid the only immediate solution is to realyl use that 60 fps approach you were describing.

    Nope, just lucky coincidence I was hanging around. Most of the time you beat me to it because I tend to sleep when across the pond business is in full swing *grin* ;o).

    It would be rather difficult to achieve something like that in AE. That stuff they show uses 3D geometry in combination with realtime dynamics simulation. The closest you can probably get is using similar techniques with displacement effects such as Aharon Rabinowitz does in his custom waveform tutorials.

  • Give the Auto-Brightness/ Auto-Contrast/ Auto-Color effects a try they will not completely compensate, but it should be much more pleasant. Other than that apply a Levels effect and counter-animate the Gamma to compensate for the variations. Camera flicker is repetitive, so with the initial timing in place you could then simply apply a loopOut(“cycle”,0) expression to the Gamma control and it will repeat the cycle across the entire length of the footage.

    Maybe you are viewing them too much flat on and they become thinner than one scanline. Other than that make sure to have enough spacial separation between the 3D layers. Even “Advanced 3D” is prone to causing clipping/ overlap errors if your layers are too close to each other.

  • Apply expressions. Create an expression on one layer and then simply copy it using “Copy Expression only”. If you want all your layers to stay at X position 3, use this:

    new_position=[3,position[1],position[2];

    [new_position]

    If you are still not sure, add Slider Expression controls to a dummy layer/ guide layer (null or invisible solid), give each a unique name and use

    X=thisComp.layer(“Dummy”).effect(“Offset X”)(“Slider”);
    Y=thisComp.layer(“Dummy”).effect(“Offset Y”)(“Slider”);
    Z=thisComp.layer(“Dummy”).effect(“Offset Z”)(“Slider”);

    new_position=[X,position[1]+Y,position[2]+Z;

    [new_position]

    This will give you maximum flexibility without destroying existing animation.

    Make sure to activate the “Live-Update” button (formerly “Wireframe Interactions”) in the timeline.
