Not sure, but sounds more like a general problem with user permissions (the installer seems unable to create your config files and directories). As for your other question: I’m not a Mac guy, but usually just deleting the AE directory along with the pref files in your user home directory counts as a clean install. All other settings should be overwritten/ redirected by the newly installed version.

That pretty much depends on what you mean by “synchronized to music”. Is it a smooth, slick edit? Rhythmic fades/ transitions? Rhythmical blinking of any kind? Do you want to sync to the “mood” or to certain beats? Without knowing what footage and what sounds/ music, this could easily turn into an endless thread, so if you can provide some more info, it would be easier to provide some guidance.

If you have Trapcode’s Particular, check my tutorial/ article here at the COW as well as the similar one on the Belief website. If that’s not an option, you’ll have to find some good photos with clouds and manually arrange them, I’m afraid.

Are you using continuously rasterize on the nested comp? This will disable nested cameras, so if you can do not use it.

Are you sure you included the depth cahnnel in the first place?

[snakeoil] “I’m pretty sure the answer is ‘no’ since it’s a post effect, but is there anyway to render out a sketch and toon look and remap it back onto the objects with body paint?”
It certainly is possible, but it may not always be feasible. Like all UV work you’d have to unwrap your geometry, create a clean UV map and then assign the rendered images to it. The real problem in that case is that your unwrapped UVs would have to form a perfect rectangle (since S&T works in screen space which always is rectangular) and you’d still need it to spread as evenly as you can. Tweaking your UV maps can cost you much more time than anything else, so you have to weigh the advantages against the limitations. Depending on what type of stuff you do, you may also want to look into creating outlines based on geometry by e.g. beveling and duplicating edges. You can even get some interesting “stroke” effects by jittering them with deformers.

Smart objects are not supported in AE. Maybe in one of the next versions. Import your graphics as native AI files or high-res pixel images and scale them in AE. Use a flattend copy of your PSD for reference if need be.

Animate the strength and radius of the force fields or split your text layers – one for the fade, the other for the shatter.

Depending on what camera move you are planning, you can space multiple copies of the same layer slightly apart. Another cheap&dirty trick is to use the shatter effect with a custom shatter map in the shape of your object. However, it too is prone to clipping problem and other potential rendering glitches, so beware. If that’s not feasible, then I’m afraid you can’t avoid venturing into the realm of 3D by means of Zaxwerks Invigorator or a “real” 3D program.
