You didn’t mention which system, but using Carbon Copy Cloner to copy, file by file to an external Firewire drive, should be able to boot off the Firewire drive in case of emergencies. If you need to run DiskWarrior without booting to the CD, you can boot the Firewire copy and run DW on the original disk drive.

Do not EVER dump a 10.y over 10.x upgrade. You are just asking for problems when you do.
I don’t know if Apple even recommends this but experience tells us to backup all the important stuff with Carbon Copy Cloner to another bare/empty drive or Firewire drive and then format and initialize the boot drive , then install Panther. A fresh install should do good. Using CCC, restore the Applications, Documents, Users and mail and bookmarks back to the newer applications such as Safari and Mail

It may be a little early to really know all the facts. Just because we all have been expecting Multicam and HDV, that doesn’t mean there aren’t at last 198 new features

Yeah! If the thinksecret rumors are correct (even 2.8 GHz) Apple is really loosing it. I don’t care what the puntits say, but Steve Jobs stood up a year and one half ago and said 2.0 GHz today and 3.0 next year. I do not care WHO’s fault it is , Apple needs to take responsibility for that statement.
With the probably entrance of dual core 4.0 Ghz Pentium chips, this looks really bad for a company that charges a premium price for the name.
Let stop giving Jobs a pass when Apple doesn’t deliver. Why should they be treated any differently that any other commodity vendor?

Final Cut Pro 4.5 is pretty much tied to the CPU power today, but I would suspect that will change in FCP 5. Also the BIG issue with Motion is the GPU power of the video card.
Get yourself the fastest AGP card you can and you should be set for Tiger – FCP 5 and whever else comes along with it.

Where have you been? Every major point upgrade of OS X usually includes a new version of QT.
The BIG news about Tiger IS QT 7 and H.264 codec. FCP 5 will most certainly take advantage of QT 7 and it’s multi channel audio. FCP will most likely have a QT 7 Pro serial number as did FCP 2-3 and 4.
