Tiger will render Quicktime Pro 6 useless
Posted by Ric Christoferson on April 16, 2005 at 1:09 pmHeads up about upgrade to Tiger:
QuickTime Pro 6 users who upgrade to Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) will not be able to use their current license codes for the newly included QuickTime Pro 7.
In addition is seems that Tiger will not run Quicktime Pro 6 at all.

April 16, 2005 at 6:19 pmHopefully FCP5 will include a code for QT 7 Pro.
But anyone here who’s not getting FCP5 soon should certainly watch this issue before buying Tiger. Perhaps it will be possible to run QT 7 AND QT 6 Pro on one system? My father is a photographer so he doesn’t use QT much, I’ll be testing these issues on his computer before I upgrade mine. We’ll see what happens.
At the very worst I would assume we’d simply have to buy the $30 pro code again. Right?

April 16, 2005 at 9:00 pmWhere have you been? Every major point upgrade of OS X usually includes a new version of QT.
The BIG news about Tiger IS QT 7 and H.264 codec. FCP 5 will most certainly take advantage of QT 7 and it’s multi channel audio. FCP will most likely have a QT 7 Pro serial number as did FCP 2-3 and 4.

April 16, 2005 at 9:45 pmIf you upgrade to Tiger and your running FCP 4.5 or less your QT 6 pro key will not work with Quicktime 7.
(As I understand it) You will need to buy the Pro key for Quicktime 7 – $30 or FCP will not work.
Not a big deal but something to consider before installing Tiger.
I’m certain you will get a QT 7 Pro key if you upgrade to FPC 5 but that could be as high as $600.00 for the upgrade.

It’s never been that high before, but I suppose there’s a first time for everything.
As noted in another thread, Apple holds their press event at 11am Pacific time Sunday at NAB. I would suggest just waiting until Apple makes their presentation and then y’all can make all the comments you want about what will work with what and how much it will all cost.

April 17, 2005 at 7:20 amQT7 is freakin amazing, bottom line. It will open up so many new doors they wont be able to build houses fast enough. when the new FCP comes out if your stay on 4.5 you better get your head checked. the reason why they are doing a new FCP, a new motion and new shake, a new DVD studio and a whole new OS is because of QT7. I saw a demo of it not so long ago, just a simple dvd thing and let me tell you i was speachless, and I can talk crap about any program. now granted some people wont have cash to buy the new FCP and other new program updates, so untill that point dont buy tiger, stay where you are and do what you do. no one is holding your hand to the fire and saying buy this or else, but if you are a tech head and stay current, to ever look back at QT6 or what ever number under QT7 is like talking about your first car hopefully your still not driving it.
