We have the GTX 680 Mac edition in our 2008 MacPro, and while it does accelerate Premiere quite a bit, it also presents some redraw problems with Speedgrade.

preferably keep Hard drives maximum 70% full. A full drive will use a lot of time to write/read disc cache, and will eventually fail.

Yes, I had a whole FCPX project go rotten because I fell into the same trap. I chose to blame FCPX for not being able to reconnect, and ditched it in favour of Premiere Pro CC. Have not regretted.

The interface did use to be unpleasant. Haven’t tried the new version, since I’m now going with Adobe instead…

Setup your keyboard shortcuts to correspond to FCP7. This should make the transition easier. When importing media, you can right click (CC) on a clip and create an optimized sequence easily.

In contrary to FCP7, Premiere shows if a clip is used in a Timeline.

Stay away from LaCie disks. They have the worst reputation, and personally I have had 2 of them crash. I would take a look at Glyph disks if I was you.

Your system is underpowered. Core2Duo is a more than 7 year old technology.
