FCP7 to PP CC question
Posted by Ron Darby on December 28, 2013 at 6:45 pmI have switched from FCP 7 to PP CC and so far so good. One thing I would like back from FCP 7 is being able to delete a clip from the bin and have that same clip stay I the timeline. Is there a setting or way to make this possible in PP CC?

December 28, 2013 at 7:09 pmNope. That’s one of the big differences. Delete from project, it gets removed from entire project.
Make a “trash bin” and put it there.

December 28, 2013 at 8:17 pmWhy would you want to delete a clip but have it remain in your timeline? Not trying to be flippant – I’m genuinely intrigued.

December 29, 2013 at 4:01 amI guess I got into the habit of deleting clips from the bin but not the timeline in FPC7.
I edit 4 new 1/2 hour episodes of a local TV show a month. The way I start a new episode is to make a new project, drag all the content from the old project into it. Then I delete all the old show’s segments (bins) , but I like to be able to reference the old timeline for commercial breaks and things. I also miss having multiply projects open at once. I know I can import projects and sequences, but I am just use to the old way.In PP CC the process is a little different , but there are a lot of new things that make up for what I miss in FCP7
I just realized I did the Trash bin thing in FCP7, I just named the bin Not In Use, instead of Trash
I kinda look at editing programs like countries. Each one has it’s own set of laws that I have to learn when working in that country.

December 29, 2013 at 9:50 amIn contrary to FCP7, Premiere shows if a clip is used in a Timeline.

Exactly! If you’re in a icon based view (picon) in a bin or project, you will see ‘flags’ on the bottom right – which if you hover your mouse over them will indicate how many times the clip is used and in what sequence(s). Very useful and so adding the feature you’re asking for would break this expected behavior. But hey, I’m not on the engineering team, so by all means file the feature request – they may already be working on it! 😉
