Calibrate Playback Offset. It is in Device Control presets and can be up to .001 of a frame precise.

Driver issue is one thing. File format is another. I believe the footage on P2 is in MXF container. FCP5 does not support MXF directly and at NAB they had a beta of third party product installed much like Apple AAF demo at NAB’04 was Automatic Duck. The MXF converter for FCP sells for $500. There are two from different companies so I don’t know which one Apple was running at NAB.

In its dev docs Apple doesn’t talk about SSE3, only SSE2 and there is no “translation” but rewrite from the scratch. In this light I wonder why there is no emphasis on GPU as SIMD? Is it even more limited than SSE? Is it because portables from Apple will use whole thing from Intel with integrated graphics? Is it because audio is as big user of SIMD as video but can’t use GPU?

Conforming 25 fps to 24 within FCP, not in Cinema Tools. Correct 24 fps preview on 50 Hz monitor. BWF support. The first is the most important because it will allow you to recapture in case you storage fails and export 25 fps EDL if you decide to finish elsewhere. SD2 is not the native ProTools format since version 5.something. All computer LCD monitors are 60 Hz but if FCP full screen preview suits you – use it. 12+1 benefits those who already have their edit bay rigged and wired.

Your workflow is based on FCP 4 feature set. FCP 4.5 and FCP 5 added a couple of film/PAL-specific things.
2)_ Should I conform in Cinema Tools to 23.98 PAL, or should I conform to 24 PAL?
You should conform to 24 fps via Tools menu in FCP, not in Cinema Tools. That will take care of the 25 fps TC so you can recapture in case the storage breaks or output 25 fps EDL if needed.

Feature-wise it is FCP vs. MC Adrenaline, not Xpress Pro. What I wonder is why ” ditching”? If you feel cutting in Avid would get you more jobs which might be the case just buy Mac version. Composer was a Mac-only product before 1996 and half of Avid products are dual-platform.

I bet it says 24 fps. Severe but just punishment for not reading TFM. Apple included “Conform 25 to 24” in FCP 4.5 so the app could keep track of the 25 fps TC.

Why instead of setting sequence field dominance to None don’t you set imported clip field dominance to Lower?

Use keystrokes instead of the drag&drop. Command-X the clip you want to move and paste it to the new position instead of dragging it there. Use square brackets for trimming instead of Roll/Ripple tool. With drag&drop your CPU cycles are wasted drawing animations and with JPEG footage you need all the cycles you can get. JPEG is more demanding than DV or uncompressed.
