As mostly an online editor nowadays I switched to Resolve a few years back. I haven’t cut a feature from scratch in Resolve yet but I wouldn’t hesitate a minute if I have to.
My biggest complaint about the evolution of the edit suite layout is the moving of the preview monitor to some place I can’t see it without breaking my neck.
I couldn’t install Blackmagic distro on Blackmagic-specced Supermicro rig. Generic CentOS 7 and most recent Ubuntu worked fine. There are a few libraries you have to add manually but the relevant threads on BMD forums have good walkthroughs.
DCI spec digital projection isn’t 2.40:1. It is 2.39:1. Resolution is 2048×858 or 4096×1716. I doubt though you are going to create and play DCP. Work in plain vanilla HD or UHD and letterbox.
I didn’t mean the expandability. By the way PowerMac 9600 had more slots than cheesegrater MacPro. I meant there always were hoops to jump through to make something to work in Mac: flashing firmware, patching kexts, etc.
