Do You have Show image option checked? Are Transparency and alpha options the only grayed out checkboxes or is grayed out the whole attributes panel?

If i caught You well:
Actually You haven’t done it on the white example either.(it is just white on white, so you cannot see the rest of nautic star of compass).To crop a graphic in ID just press V key on Your keyboard(or choose a black arrow in tools panel) than drag one of the corners like You do when You want to scale it.
Pretty siple innit? 😉

What about placing the same pdf or other graphic into all of the documents? You can easily change content in just this single pdf and then use “Update Link” button (in Links window) for those several documents where you have already placed it.
But I think there are of course other ways to do it.

You don’t have to open anything than the Indesign.
To create a swatch from placed graphic:
Use a color picker and choose color from artwork
Don’t forgett that color picker picked color values in RGB(convert it in color palette (f6) to CMYKOnce the color is picked just click to “New Swatch” button in Swatches palette.
That’s it! 🙂

R U working in cmyk color space? There is absolutely no reason to see different colors if the values of process colors are the same(Check also if there is no blending mode applied on ps or vector fragments). Try to explain in more details please
