September 11, 2008 at 12:51 am in reply to: Final Cut Keeps Shutting Down During RenderingTry exporting your Motion project to a Quicktime movie and then put that file in your FCP project. I’ve done this several times to work around rendering issues with good results.
Good luck!

I don’t use illustrator, but to import a layered Photoshop file you need to use, from the menu, “File” -> “Import” then select the file you want. You are then prompted for “merged layers” or “all layers” choices.
Good luck!

September 7, 2008 at 8:24 pm in reply to: Importing from Photoshop, WITH SEPARATED layersYeah, this is an odd quirky thing – instead of selecting your file that you want to import in the File listing down the left side of the screen, go up to the menu at the top and choose “File” then “Import” – it will give you the option of merged or individual layers. That should take care of your problem.
Good luck! Happy “motioning” (is that a word?)

I’m hoping you’ve found a solution already, but in case you didn’t – when you go to the “Filters” tab, you will see the filter, and a button directly below that labeled “Visual” – press that and it will take you to the 3-way cc window. You can also just select the tab labeled “3-way Color Corrector” in your viewer window. Applying the filter doesn’t automatically take you to that tab.
An additional hint – when you want to do 3wcc, select under the “Window” menu “Arrange” then “color correct” – this gives you a window with additional scopes to help you color correct your clip.
Good luck!

It’s a long shot – but check your Autosave vault in case you have a version saved from when you were in 4.5 – then open that in 4.5. I know its a long shot, since you had to get a new drive, etc. but maybe this hint will help someone in the future.
Good luck!

September 7, 2008 at 7:39 pm in reply to: Change motion tab settings for multiple clips?Just a note about your first reply – the command is “paste attributes” – then you do the check box for basic motion. This is one of my very favorite FCP commands!

here’s a few more – I’ve never purchased from them so can’t vouch for ease of use etc.

Couple of (generic) suggestions since I can’t see your project –
Be sure your playhead is at the beginning of your timeline
Be sure you don’t have an in point and out point marked in your timeline
Try Export – Using Quick Time Conversion – and manually set your options to what you want them to be – ex. DV/DVCPRO NTSC is typically what I export – be sure you have settings that match your video
Be sure your hard drive isn’t full
Try using export to compressor and pick quick time as your output format
I’m sure this is a very panic situation for you – take a deep breath, it will be ok! Good luck!

August 8, 2008 at 3:18 pm in reply to: What is the most affordable/effective mac to buy to run FCPS2?I use a 24″ iMac with FCP2 and it is great. I have the 2.8 gz and I upgraded to the 4g ram and 1T hard drive – your space requirements may not be as intense as mine (I do HD) but I would definitely upgrade your memory if you can afford the $$. You can always add a Firewire 800 external drive when you run out of drive space.

Go into Photoshop and check your .psd file – is it only 1 layer, with “Background” being that one layer? The transparency is not preserved if that is the only layer. Double-click that layer to change it from background to any name you want to give it (such as Layer 1). Save it, then go back to FCP and import it and see if that clears it up.
If not – in your timeline, select the photo, then do Modify -> Alpha Channel and be sure you have “Straight” selected. That usually fixes this type of issue. If it doesn’t, try each of the Alpha Channel options to see if it fixes it.
Good luck!
