Premiere will work fine without the card…BUT…all your DV.avi video files on your computer that were created/captured with the Pinnacle card may not be playable or editable.

In the Advanced Encoder settings; choose 1 pass CBR and set the Quality slider to the middle. Should encode at nearly real time.

Play the files in Windows Media Player and while playing, record the audio using Audition or your audio recorder. Save those as .wav files and sync up to the video in Premiere.

I tried to just copy the files, but for one reason or another, I kept getting error messages when I did that.
Got to suspect a bad disc or faulty DVD reader. Try copying the files from the DVD to the hard drive on another PC and then Contact Adobe support for replacement.

One issue with Premiere is the Preference setting “Default scale to frame size” which causes larger pics to be rasterized in Media cache at 720 x 480. This leaves no room for any zoom without pixelating the images. Best to scale photos in Photoshop to something like 1200×900 before importing into PP and turn off the scale option.
Bleed thru is likely unsafe colors above 235 RGB. Desaturate those that do bleed.

This error usually is on of the few error messages that is usually straight forward. Your tape probably does have broken timecode. Typically caused by rewinding the tape and previewing what was shot…but running past the end of the last recorded shot into tape with no timecode. You will need to mannually forward the tape past the blank area using the camera controls.

Camtasia 3 is a great app for making training videos…scorm compliant too.

Pinnacle never offered drivers for the Pro one and Premiere past 6.5. Premiere can capture fine from an OHCI firewire card.

File>Export Movie>Settings
Set General> File Type to Microsoft AVI (not DV).
Set Video Compressor to None.
Set Color Depth to Millions of Colors+ (the + is important). -
Quicktime Pro seems to do a better job than PP2 for encoding H264.
