Sound like a bug… I’ve seen reports of some quicktime related stuff on Adobe’s AE forum. Have you queried them?

Try tweaking your cache settings as per the sticky post at the top of this forum. It’ll help AE7 run way smoother on an intel box. I’d strongly recommend upgrading to AE CS3 if you can. It’s a HUGE difference perfomance-wise on Intel-Macs.

Are you using the full release of CS3 or the CS3 Free Preview? The preview had some quicktime issues & issues with footage from AE7 projects.

Use CC Cylinder. You’ll need to have 2 layers of your text… One for thpart in front of the Globe, one for the part behind the globe. CC Cylinder allows you to just render the Inside or Outside of the effect. You’ll see what I mean when you start playing with the effect.

What about trying your Fractal Noise & add some swirling by experimenting with some of the Distort effects like Swirl, Liquify, Mesh Warp or possibly Puppet Tool? I’ve done some neat things with Puppet Tool, it has a lot of possibilities, even in non-cartoon applications.

If you’re working on an Intel-Mac you’re experiencing the dreaded AE7/Intel/Rosetta problem. The sticky at the top of this forum will help you out.

For $299 (until the end of the month, it’s normally $2,900) you can get what looks like an amazing pro-quality tracker. I haven’t tried it but will be purchasing this week.

Starglow by Trapcode would work for this as well.

AE7 runs like crap on Intel based Macs. Read the sticky note at the top of the forum on Running AE7 on Intel Macs. CS3 works great on Intel Macs but your plugins need to be upgraded to UB versions to work in CS3. All of the standard plugins (including Keylight & the CC effects) are upgraded but most 3rd party plugs haven’t been released yet.

  • The 3D flat lines were probably done with a 3D app like Maya, Lightwave or Cinema4D. Mylenium has a tutorial on how to do them in Maya. I think there’s a tutorial called 3D ribbons done in After Effects but they don’t look as cool and are much harder to pull off than those done in 3D. As for your particular question, I think there is an option to Use Comp Camera that will solve your problem.
