I use RecordNow to do this all the time as I don’t have the room to keep the master project for very long. I just set it up to make a data DVD, copy the original VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders to my hard drive and make as many copies as necessary.

Have you tried matching the aspect ratio of the stills?
Open the Pan/Crop window, right click and select Match Output Aspect.
There are scripts to do this to the entire timeline at once. -
Sorry Chris but Vegas will re-encode anything you give it.
I’ve had to do this in the past and the quality hit wasn’t that bad but it is still noticeable.
Womble and Video ReDo are two apps that are recommended for editing VOB files as they don’t re-encode. -
The only real solution to long renders is to upgrade your processor/computer. Your profile says you’re running a 2.8 GHz machine. Upgrading to (almost) the latest and greatest processor would cut your render times by more than half, if not more.

My theory on this is that Vegas initially bases render times on no FX at all. The moment it sees an efect of any kind, it recalculates times based on that effect. Obviously a dissolve will happpen much quicker than a 4 track PIP or similar effect. My current project is only 8 minutes but, due to all the effects in it, took almost an hour to render. Render estimates kept jumping from 30 min. to 2 hr.
I just accept that a render will take some time and go do some paperwork 🙂 -

Chris, do a google search on vegas filmstrip tutorial.
The first few sites that should come up have some good tutorials on how to do this. -
Did you also install the .NET Framework.
BTW, Vegas is at 6.0d these days so I’d download and install that version. -
“Render As” settings are different than “Project Poperties” settings.
Your project is set up so that all files match the original settings. My primary use for this is to have stills match the project setings.
when it’s render time though, this can be set to anything you desire.I’m away from my computer right now so the following is from memory.
After selecting your desired output type (in your case, QT Pro H.264 Codec), click on the “Custom” buton and then the Audio or Video tabs. Make the necessary changes and save this as a preset (high, medium or low).
The next time you go to render, these options will appear in the drop down menu once you select the render “type”.
