Grant, I vaguely recall reading in a Vegas forum somewhere about the pan/crop tool sometimes changing the field order from lower to upper. As I recall, a possible solution was to adjust the pan/crop settings to be one line higher or lower. Another suggestion was to try a very small amount (0.001) of (horizontal??) gaussian blur. Hopefully someone else has other suggestions for you.

Most digital camera images are outside of the normal 16-235 range of DV (i.e. they’re 0-255). To correct this, click the Event FX icon on the image and select Color Corrector (Secondary). Now select the Computer RGB to Studio RGB preset. This brings the 0-255 range down to 16-235 and helps a lot with high contrast images.
I notice it mostly when there is vertical movement across the scan lines.”
Try a VERY small amount (0.001) of vertical-only Gaussian blur and see if that helps.

To do your entire timline, either run a script or select the first event, shift-click the last one and, while still on the last one, right click it and select “Switches – Reduce Interlace Flicker”. -

“Is there a way of identifying the timecode from the tape?”
The usual way of doing it is to add the Timecode FX to the clip while it’s still in the media pool. I don’t shoot HDV so I’m not sure if this will work. Try it and see.

Why are you rendering using Best mode? Unless there’s a really good reason (lots of stills that MUST be of excellent quality), Good is good enough – and a lot less strain (& time) on the render process.

As you’ve discovered, saving a preset in P/C doesn’t save keyframes.
Call this yet another bug in Vegas 🙁
The way to do it is to get event #1 the way you want and copy it.
Now right click event #2 and select “paste event attributes”.
Voila!! Everything you did to event #1 now happens to event #2.
