I’m creating a movie trailer for a website in 3 different resolutions (high, medium and low). After completion of the project in Vegas the file size is 721MB 720×480. After compression using the QT Pro H.264 Codec to a quicktime, streaming, fast start movie, the low res file is 240×170 29MB, medium res 480×360 76MB, high res 560×390 97MB. Bottom line is the files are way too big, and I can’t figure out how to rerender the original Vegas project into somthing not so big. The low res file should be able to be viewed by a 56k connection. Iv’e attempted to create a different template under project properties, but after ive applied and saved that to the project when I “render as”, it resorts to the default sizes of
Audio: 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, PCM Uncompressed.
Video: 29.97 fps, 720×480, Lower field first.

Anyone think of a good avenue I can try?

“Render As” settings are different than “Project Poperties” settings.
Your project is set up so that all files match the original settings. My primary use for this is to have stills match the project setings.
when it’s render time though, this can be set to anything you desire.

I’m away from my computer right now so the following is from memory.
After selecting your desired output type (in your case, QT Pro H.264 Codec), click on the “Custom” buton and then the Audio or Video tabs. Make the necessary changes and save this as a preset (high, medium or low).
The next time you go to render, these options will appear in the drop down menu once you select the render “type”.
    HTH.
