In a nutshell, open Vidcap, select the Print to Tape tab and then go file > open.
For more info, open the help file in Vidcap and search for Print to Tape in the index. Make sure it’s not “Printing to Tape” as these aren’t the correct instructions. It’ll explain things clearly. -
As long as you have at least Vegas 6.0c, it’s as simple as file > import > DVD camcorder disc.
You will lose quality because Vegas will re-render the entire clip. How much depends on things such as how low the new bitrate is. Obviously the higher the better. -
I seem to recall reading somewhere that the Microsoft DV codec uses the full 0-255 range while the codec in Vegas restricts it to 16-235. This would account for the increased saturation & contrast. Try fixing this by using the secondary color correction FX and applying the “computer RGB to studio RGB” preset. In your case, this would have to be applied at the track level.
As far as having a hard drive full of footage, invest in another hard drive and an external case (or two). Both are very reasonably priced these days. -
Try doing it through Vidcap and see if you have better luck.

In a nutshell, no. If you want to run dual monitors, then you’ll need a dual head card. If these are HD res (eg. 1920 x 1080), then you’d have to make sure the card would support them. Otherwise, for Vegas, a high end video card is low on the priority list.

If your budget allows it, a Miller DS-10 Aluminum Tripod System.
$1,400 at B&H. I know more than one shooter who had your tripod and switched to the Miller. They were astounded at how much better it was. -
A search of the archives on “key macros” turned up the thread What tool to script keyboard/mouse movements. Not sure if it’s exactly what you’re looking for but it seemed to be close.
