  • I realize that but I still think there’s a chance that it’s 29.97 as this is the NTSC standard.
In the Project Media tab in Vegas, click on any AVI from this camera, switch to Detailed View and scroll over to the Frame Rate column.
    What does it say there?

  • Even though you said it’s 30p, odds are that it’s really 29.97.
WMV defaults to 30 fps but 29.97 is an option.
Try that and see if your problem goes away.

By their very nature, a DVD is a series of MPEG files.
The authoring program converts it to a series of VOB files but, in reality, they’re still MPEG files.

Does your client want the raw MPEG files?
If that’s the case, then set your burning software to do a DATA disc instead of a DVD disc and copy the MPEG file(s).

BTW, was my answer in your vegas changes mpg to m2v thread helpful?

July 4, 2007 at 11:39 pm in reply to: 60i to 24P dvd. Where is the 20% savings?

I just tried on an 80 min. video using the DVD Architect 24p NTSC Widescreen video stream template (23.976 + 2-3 pulldown).
When I rendered this out using a custom DVD Architect NTSC video stream template (VBR of 8,000,000 7,200,000, 3,600,000), the file size was 4.03 GB (4,333,539,328 bytes).
Using the 24p template and the same VBR settings, it came out to 3.37 GB (3,623,215,104 bytes).
Assuming my math is correct, this is a 16% file size reduction.

BTW, where do you get a 24P progressive setting setting in DVDA?
I fed it that file and it said OK and rendered it.

July 4, 2007 at 10:03 pm in reply to: HDCAM to HDV

    From the Sony knowledgebase:

Q: Does Vegas have native support for HDCAM?

A: No, but you can work with it via HD-SDI, using a Decklink card.

Q: Which Decklink cards are compatible with Vegas?

A: When used with any Decklink SDI-equipped card, Vegas supports capturing, monitoring and edit to tape of NTSC, PAL, 1920×1080 60i and 1920×1080 50i over SDI.

The Vegas 7e & Decklink thread on the Sony Vegas forum brings up a few more issues as well.

At the (almost) top left of the preview widow is a 2-toned circle symbol called Split Screen View.
Click it and you should see your FX again.

Forget using Pan/Crop in this case and use keyframes instead.
    Open up a text event.
Change the text event size from 720 x 480 to something like 720 x 1,000.
You can adjust the 1,000 value lower or higher later if necessary.
Change the event length to 30 sec.
    Enter all your text.
Go to the beginning of the event on the timeline in the text window.
Change the Y value in the Placement tab so that the text is in the proper starting position (around 4.0).
    Create a key frame here.
Go to the end of the event on the timeline in the text window and adjust the Y value so that the text is in the proper ending position (around -4.0).
    Create another keyframe.
    That should do it.
Play it and see if this is what you want.

My guess is that you’ve accidentally used the
DVD NTSC video stream template instead of the
DVD Architect NTSC video stream template.

Selecting the former will give you an M2V file instead of the MPEG-2 file you get with the latter.

Charlie, if you go with the Dell that I linked to earlier, it is an HDTV set, albeit without an NTSC/ATSC tuner 🙁
Inputs include Analog RGB, Digital DVI-D3 TMDS HDCP Compatible, S-Video,
Composite, Component and 4 USB 2.0 ports.
If you want to monitor SDTV, then you’ll still need a standard definition video monitor of some type.

Phil, it’s been a few months now but, as I recall, the scaling was taken care of by my graphics card and is done automatically.
