Sounds to me like a track level or video output level FX accidentally got turned on (with keyframes).

Capturing is a straight-forward transfer of the information on the tape into the computer. Therefore nothing gets changed during this process.
My suspicion is that, since it’s so small, the preview window wasn’t showing you how grainy the fotage really was. -
Are your project properties set correctly?
Is your preview window set to Best/Full? -
They’re not plug-ins but the various products from Digital Juice make great animated backdrops.

You don’t say what version you have but Norton has removal instructions for all versions on their site.
However, a Google search using “uninstall norton antivirus” (without the quotes) turned up several sites that say that you’ll still need to do some registry editing to completely remove all traces of it.
Here’s one site that seemed pretty comprehensive.
Maybe someone else here has other ideas.

I’ve been using Trend Micro’s PC-Cillin for the past 3 years and have not had any problems whatsoever.
Be advised that it’s a PITA to get Norton completely off your system. -

The new tutorial videos at the top of this page give you a good ideas as to it’s capabilities.
It is $350 but you get what you pay for – and, in this case, you get an excellent audio tool 🙂 -

If you mean how do you do subtitles, I’m being honest when I say that I can’t answer that question.
Since I only do this once or twice a year, I usually forget the sequence of steps involved so I end up reading the online help in DVD Architect.
It’s well laid out and tells you everything you need to know to be able to do subtitles.
