  • DVDs created in Architect Studio 3 hang for a second…

Posted by Mark Jablonowski on January 9, 2008 at 4:30 am

I’m just a little home movie maker using Vegas Movie Studio 6 and DVD Architect Studio 3.

I am finding that sometimes my DVDs will hang or stop for a second while playing. It doesn’t always happen at the same spot. I’m not sure where to begin to track down how to address this: is it my settings in Architect (you’ll have to point me in the right direction to check on these); is it my DVD player at home (Sony DVD player that a couple of years old); is it the media I’m using (eh, cheap Staples DVDs)?

I’m hoping you kind folks can throw a couple of suggestions my way to see what I’m doing wrong. To me, it’s almost as if the player chokes on the data. If I stop the disc, shut down, and restart, I think it plays better. In a 45 minute video, this might happen 5 times, and not until the disc has been playing awhile, perhaps 20 minutes into the DVD.

    Any thoughts gladly accepted! Thanks.

It could be the media, it could be the bitrate. At what bitrate are you creating your DVDs?

    Thank you for your response!

I never changed the bitrate from when I installed the software. I looked under “file”, “optimize DVD” and found the default video bitrate set at 8 Mbps in the lower left corner of the window. The project I am working on is 2.938 MB or 63% of 4.7 Gig media.

Under “options”, “preferences”, in “burning”, I found the “render options” showing a “minimum video bitrate” set at 2.0 Mbps.

If it were the media, I would have thought that the problem would occur at the same point on the finished disc, but I really don’t know. What do you suggest as a brand/vendor for media? All of my work is for my own and family’s entertainment – vacation videos, school plays, music recitals, etc.

Looking forward to your further thoughts. The whole video editing process provides an outlet for my creative side.

[Altair 4] “What do you suggest as a brand/vendor for media?”

I stick to Taiyo Yuden & Verbatim and have not had any problems with either brand.

Just a follow up note – I checked one of my discs and found that the problem doesn’t repeat itself at the same point in the dvd. In other words, if I get a hang situation, then back up and replay the same scene where it previously hung, it will play it smoothly through. Go figure…
