Sergey, you say you don’t want a standard DVD but you haven’t told us what you want to do with these files.

Files for DVD fall within a very narrow range of image sizes.
For standard definition 4:3 NTSC, those are 352×240, 352×480. 704×480 and 720×480.
For 16:9, this is reduced to 704×480 and 720×480.
Acceptable frame rates are 29.97 fps or 23.976 fps + 2-3 pulldown.

Vegas 6 added the capability to import DVD files with version 6.0c.
File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc.
While originally designed for the miniDVD discs, it works with full-sized DVDs as well.
It may take some time to build all the files so be patient while this is going on.

Your concerns about re-rendering the original material are valid.
Vegas 8 will not re-render original material as long as you use the same render settings as when it was first done (i.e. bitrate).

For this reason, I’d probably use VideoReDo or Womble as it’s my understanding that they will take the original material and allow you to add new material (that you’ve created and rendered to MPEG-2 from Vegas) without unnecessary re-rendering.

Set the “End Action” of chapter 3 to chapter 1.

But that doesn’t say if they’re talking about a computer external monitor or a video external monitor.
As I said, I searched the DVDA 4.5 manual and could not find any reference to the use of a computer external monitor, only a video one.

Craig, I stand to be corrected but I think the external monitor feature in DVD Architect is for an external video monitor only.
I went through the DVDA 4.5 manual and that’s the only external monitor reference I could find.

Vin, odds are pretty good that, when you zoomed in, you ended up on the wrong video line (odd vs. even or the other way around), thus changing it from lower field to upper field.
The only solution would be to zoom in or out further by one line.

No official word from Sony yet on the release of a 64-bit version.
Even when it finally does get released though, odds are that you’ll need the latest version of Vegas to run it.

What are you using for an external monitor?
Are you trying to do this at the same time as Vegas is running?

Have you tried the “File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc”feature?
It was originally designed for miniDVD discs but works just as well with full-sized DVDs. The key is be patient while the files load in.

As long as the original transfer from VHS to DVD looks OK, the new DVD should be OK as well. Try one and see if the quality is up to your expectations.

If all you want to do is cut out a few scenes, look at Womble and VideoReDo as they allow you to do this without re-encoding (which is what happens with Vegas).
