Switch to your direct select tool, and grab the i-beam for the text.
Pull the I-Beam towards the inside of the circle and you may need to adjust the other 2 I-Beasm for the start and end of your text on a path. Now you should have the correct rotation and positon of type, but you may desire for the type to ride across the outer edge of the circle. This is best fixed by chnging your baseline shift ot the point size of the type.

Convert your text into outlines, and see if that helps. You may have a font conflict.

Your path turning red most likely signifies that your item is on a 2nd layer. By default when you create a new layer it is red for the 2nd layer in your layer palette.
I would take a look at your appearance palette with the item selected, and that should give you a hint as to why this is not acting like a path and allowing you to use a direct select tool.

The shortcuts you mentioned are for used whiel drawing shape tools.
Up or down cursor arrow – will increase or decrease the amont of pouints on a star or chnaeg the radius of a rounded rectangle.
Ctrl & Alt (Command& Opt on Mac)- are very useful for stars and spirals especicially. Holding down ctrl will constrain the inner radius while drawing a star.
~ – this just steps and dupliactes as you draw any shape. Not a useful daily trick to use, but very exciting to see for the first time you use this.
Left & Right Cursor arrow – usefull when drawing a grid, as this will delete or add colums

June 12, 2006 at 9:07 pm in reply to: Exporting layers from Illustrator CS2 to Photoshop CS2Usually works very good if you have maximum editablilty checked, except that often you lose text editability, even though that is checked.
There must be some type of attribute on your artowrk that is causing this, can provide an example?

June 12, 2006 at 8:53 pm in reply to: Data sets, Text replacement and vertical alignment. There is one way, but you would have to convert the area text layer to a shape layer (layer>>type>>convert to shape). Then create a shape layer the size of the entire document, link the 2 layers, and then with the fullpage shape layer selected use the vertical align.

June 12, 2006 at 8:34 pm in reply to: reduce many Illustrator paths to one, import ONE mask to After EffectsOk I got it you connected the endpoints to make a zig zagging z shape. Sounds like you may have. I hate to suggest stariting over, but it really is only 2 steps to recreate:
Draw a vertical line
Filter >> Distort >> Zig Zag (size: 100 pt, ridges per segments: 90) -
From your post it appears you have an illustrator line drawing that you need layers to animate. You will want to create layers in illustrator and move itmes to layers so that each layer is the object you wnat to animate. (select the items you wish to move to a layer, you will ntoice a swaure to the right of the layer name in the layers palette, drag that sqaure to teh traget layer where you wish to move those objects
If this is going into After effects you do not need to use Phothoshop, just import this into AE as layers. Don’t have AE in fornmt of me now, btu there are optiosn when importing that will either give you a bounding box for each layer taht is the size of the entire documetn of the size fo each item. AE will restack everything in postion, you just need to decide, becuase you may watn the saem or different anchor poitns for each layer, depending on your animation project.

You need to edit your gradient that you are using for the mask. If you use a default linear gradient it is 100% on on end 0% on the other. Go to the gradient palette and slide black gradient slider over to about 90%. Another method you may like the results is switching the color of the black gradietn swatch to CMYK, and adding 50% or more cyan.
You will want to do some test prints if this is going to print, as a 5% dot may hold up differetnly on differetn pritning presses/calibrations. If you are doing video, taht yuor final results will be easier to judge directly on screen.

Where are you getting a crosshatch tool from? Illustrator has an effect >> brush stroke >> crosshatch(that is meant to be applied to embedded images), but have not seen a tool?
