  • Yes, and I am working in PAL, just wondering if I should export in H.264 or DV PAL or Apple Pro-Res or any of the other millions of options 🙂

OK, so I took the advice and bought a cleaning head, I have played it for 10 seconds and the camera seems to be working, I have recorded and playedback and all fine. I put the original Italian tapes in and they are still only playing until I fast forward, when I fastforward all the footage is there but when I press play it only plays blue, this happens on both tapes. So at least the footage is there but I cannot capture it into FCP and it won’t work on other camcorders.

Any ideas, so many people haven’t of this before

August 16, 2011 at 9:02 pm in reply to: Motion Template not working

It is project_401 from motionvfx.com although I managed to put in all the pics in the drop zones and I managed to change the text (even though it took ages and I had to wait a minute after I did anything for it to catch up) when I thought it was good enough I saved it and imported it to FCP, when I tried to play on viewer it did nothing other than a couple of stutters but I dropped it into the timeline and rendered it (which took ages) but after that it works fine.

So good news is I got it to work but it was a nightmare and I can’t watch my work back in motion I have to save and import and render which is a lot of time to then see I have made a mistake and have to do it all over again.

Not sure if that is the only way or if I am doing something wrong

July 12, 2011 at 9:08 pm in reply to: What camera/sequence settings?

It was a thread I read that says in low light (I’m thinking the party in the evening of the wedding) you can use +6 gain if need be and the picture will be fine. There was a write up on the V1E by a professional guy that said the sharpness was set by default to +7 and that you should take it down to +3 which I have.

So I shall drop the footage onto the timeline then and let FCP do the rest?

  • actually the gopro footage is at 29fps, does this make a difference as well and if so what should I do about that?

  • Hi Noah

So lets say I am using the setting r5 on my gopro which is the 16:9 Full HD (1920×1080) 1080p 25fps when I drop it into Mpeg Streamclip (or compressor) do I choose:

    Apple Prores 422
    Apple prores 422 (HQ)
    Apple prores proxy
    Apple prores (LT)

and do I choose whichever resolution matches the original footage, so in this case 1920×1080 (unscaled)

then when it is done and it is imported into FCP, I also have my V1E footage which is in 1440×1080 at 25fps, so what do I do now, do I convert my V1E footage to the apple prores as well (and which one) and what do I select the resolution at for the V1E stuff because there is no choice for 1440×1080 so do I still pick 1920×1080??

Thanks Noah, really appreciate your help

I can answer my own question here lol I changed the easy set up to Apple Intermediate Codec, 1080i and it is currently capturing woohoo hopefully when it is done it will be in sparkly HD…well HDV I will be adding titles and stills to the video I am making so should I use different sequence settings than the HDV because of this?

Hi Michael, well this does seem to be the problem, I have the ilink convert set to ‘on, I have now turned it off and I can’t capture, it says on the log and capture window ‘no communication’ is this because I am using the white apple ilink wire. Should I be using a firewire. I don’t know much about cables, if I go to the shop to get one what firewire should I be asking for, I have the Sony V1E and I have a Mac OS X version 10.6.7 processor 3.2 GHz intel core i3
