What size are the clips, what resolution is the sequence what are you doing to do with the exported file.
How are you exporting. That image is really floating in black. This never happens without you doing something wrong.

No idea how you can be using software like FCP and live with it crashing like this. You need to delete the prefs and maybe reinstall the software. -
NEVER transcode from the cards. The card (entire structure and every file) should always be copied to a hard drive. These are your DIgital Tape. Then you can transcode with Mpeg StreamClip, Compressor or Log and Transfer in FCP (MB Grinder is a for cost program that has some nice features)
The files off out of the camera have no TC so there is nothing to reference the edit to transcoded media later on. Do yourself a favor, Log and Transfer and edit, This can be done over night or a long break, then edit. Everything will be faster from that point on. (Search about editing H264 in FCP)
Using Log and Transfer adds Timecode to the video also.

If you get your clips into any small size codec, place them in your timeline, render for smooth playback, they we be big again. You are pissing into the wind (sorry to be crude but it is the best picture of what you are doing)
The easiest thing to do is to capture the QT with the same settings as your timeline. Then just deal with the file size, it will end up that size anyway but it is a long process because you are rendering.
What are your sequence settings? If you are using ProRes you may try ProRes Proxy to see if they playback okay without rendering.

You are talking about COPYing the card to the hard drive and not doing a Log and Transfer, right?
You shouldn’t be getting much more than 1.5 min /1GB. If you are hooking up the camera this doesn’t really matter how the drive is connected, since that slows down the chain.

I believe the 7D is sending true HD out also. But there is no way to remove the info on the screen, You can turn off most of the stuff but the red dot will always be on. -
For causal stills in auto it is fine. Almost impossible to manual focus. taking your hand off the ring will move focus every time. So if you want an autofocus lens for this purpose go for it.
I haven’t seen the body only for sale anywhere, just saw the kit at Best Buy. I plan to sell my T2i and get this camera. Probably cost me and addition $300 if I through in some extras with my T2i, so if anyone want an okay deal on a T2i I will be selling it soon!

[Shane O'Brien] “JVC TM-H1750C”you would need video card or box that can downconvert the HD to SD and if the picture was still good it would be fine as an external monitor. I believe every HD card/device offers down conversion. I’m a firm believer in having a CRT monitor in an editing suite. I edit all HD footage and I would not go without mine. I get work fixing and identifying peoples field order problems, without a CRT there is no way of knowing if there is a problem with that. This is also used for proofing my DVDs.
But there is not a big market for SD equipment so if you sell them get ready to give them away.

While I don’t think there is a quick and easy way to make a new action for Vimeo. My thinking is that YouTube has given Apple some hooks to build this action. I would think that you would have to build an Automation (sorry I don’t really use that app at all) that looks for a file in a watch folder, then logs on to your Vimeo account and uploads the video. No idea if this can be done but if it can be done this is probably the way to do it.

What about working in a 1280×720 sequence, place the 1024×768 clips so it floats in black, then at the end, crop the black off in Compressor. May get a little loss of quality for RT playback but it is worth a shot.

Well this is not as simple as rotating the video, did you shot this 9:16 (turning the camera to vertical), if not did you edit knowing a good bit of the sides are going to have to be cropped?
