you cannot do it from the same computer, you need two sources, but for the DVD Video you can use a standard DVD player.
You need to check the switcher above carefully, You need some way of getting a computer feed into it. Something like the Matrox MXO takes the DVI from the computer and turns it into a video stream.
Also you need to be able to crop this image coming from the computer since you would not want the entire image. PIP is a different from a graphic overlay.
I think this is a pretty hard thing to do on the cheap.
Is there a link to the live news feed you want to use, I would be interested in seeing how that is coming through
There maybe video cards that can combine these things but you need to stop thinking DVD and would just use a QT movie on the hard drive. I don’t know of any off hand.

What are your settings for video and audio bit rates?
How did you author the DVD, you said “from iMovie” did you mean iDVD?

DVD Studio Pro, unfortunately it is only available in Final Cut Studio 2. $1299. If you don’t need the full suite it is kind of a high price to pay. (If you have any version of FCP you get an upgrade for $699)
But even if you don’t want to use FCP the other programs are good to have
SoundTrack Pro and Motion are great for what they do.Then there is now Encode for the Mac by Adobe. I have never used it or played with it, I’m just throwing it out there.

Attacking people giving you advice is not the best thing. His point is there is so many post warning people to wait. I love being the first to install but I (and most others) recommend a fast return. I installed Leopard as soon as I got it on a new HD that had a clone of my system, so I have my 10.4.10 ready to be plugged back in if things go wrong.
One thing is the MacMini even supported to run Motion?
BTW: Motion 3 is running fine on my Mac Pro, I’m just learning the app so I’m just going through the Apple Training book.
Of course the Apple documented issue of FCP not being able to use Motion templates is there. So if Motion templates in FCP is something you need, leopard is a no go.

There are video switcher would “cut up” the screen for the different feeds. You would need a different feed for each element. The DVD could come from a DVD player and then the Stock prices from a computer.

Sounds like you are using an NTSC setting somewhere, which is why you are seeing the “420”
Where is it getting cropped, after compressor? make sure you are using or making a PAL preset.
16:9 in all SD video has the same pixel count as 4:3 just a different shape. 16;9 is 1.2:1 vs 4:3’s 0.9:1.
So as long as you start with a 16:9 timeline in FCP, use a preset that has the aspect ratio set to 16:9 in compressor, when you drop it into a track in DVDSP it will be 16:9. The only other thing you need to set is how it will be viewed on a 4:3 set (Letterbox or pan&scan, using letterbox is more of the standard) When done correcting the player does NOTHING to the video when the player is set for 16:9 TV but does something when the player is set for a 4:3 TV.

If you are bring in m2v files DVDSP will never reencode them, nor do you want it to. Encode the audio are ac3 in compressor and use that instead of the PCM and it should fit.

where does your video looked stretched? external monitor? I know the clip and sequence for DVCProHD is 960×720 and for video out with my Kona 3 card you use 1280×720 setting but only for video out not the sequence or clips.

Take the default DV NTSC (locked) and duplicate it. Click the anamorphic box and there you go. All it is is a different pixel shape 1.2 vs .9 pixel count is the same 720×480.

You see more and more titles with this. Some at least lets you hit title to get out. 10 seconds seems like an eternity when watching something you do not want to watch. My thought is a person that copies movies illegally is not going to change their mind just because they are forced to watch a FBI warning for 10 seconds.
