You use both, Final Cut will always take over the Frame Buffer on the Kona card when it is the active app, what you still have to set in the Kona Control Panel is the output format, that is where the same settings are for straight passthrough, cross conversion or down conversion.

I have a older Toshiba with DVI, I have a Playstation 3 and a HD DVD player hooked up via a HDMI to DVI cable and all is fine. The HD Component connection would work also.

Apple operates totally on the honor system, right now there is no database that needs to be accessed to update. That is why I said to be fair to Apple you should now the person you are buying from and that he/she is not keeping a version and the Serial Number for himself.

Apple actually places a lot of trust in its users. This will fall into an ethics thing more than a will it work on my system. There is nothing that stops someone from loading a piece of Apple software on their computer and then selling it to someone else, who loads it on their computer and both will work, both are upgradable but only one is legal. There is only a problem if both are opened on the same network.
So the question is who are you buying it from? Do you know them? Are you sure they have removed the software from their system? If you can be fairly certain, there should be no issues on your part.
One of the great things about Apple is their take on all this. They make it so easy for their real customers in getting their OS and software up and running without jump through hoops with internet registration/validation/dongles, we as customers need to make sure we are paying for legit software. If we police ourselves, there is less need to be policed by others.

It really should be re-rendered. When you drop the footage, as is, into a 720×480 sequence it will zoom in 112% and modify the aspect ratio, it will then need to be rendered.

With lighting being equal, Progressive should give you better keys.

Be safe, be smart, clone your drive and then do the update. That way you have an instant back to the way it was. You can get 1TB drives for under a $100 so everyone should have a bootable backup drive.
Also seems to be better to download the updates verse doing it through Software Update.

This could also be a problem with your hard drive, is it almost full, are rendered files going to your external HD or your internal?

What is your problem, doesn’t seem like you have stated it above.
Non-controllable will always give you “No Communication” because there is nothing to communicate with, this is deck control and there is no deck to control. When you have this set you start your device and the hit Capture Now in the Log and Capture, when done you hit escape and you have your clip/audio.
