    Hi-

Does anyone know of any new problems digitizing analog source material in FCP 6.0.5?

I am working with a client who is digitizing via a Canopus from an old mini-disc player – via RCA. It has worked in the past but does not work now, but he has done some computer upgrades recently. He is currently on OS 10.5.6 on a new 2 x 2.8ghz G5.

Everything seemed to be OK and I tried everything that usually works – I trashed the preferences, FCP found the Canopus and it could send the signal back out to the monitor. Also, a new weird thing – in Log/Capture VTR was OK but if I changed the settings to non-controllable device it switched to “no communication” (which was probably because the audio signal was not registering in FCP). I tried it through his camera as well (and on a separate laptop with the same specs) with the same problem.

So, just wondering if this is some new little bug others have experienced. Or is there just something I am overlooking (but I have worked with Canopus or Sony Media Converters for many years…)

    Thanks!

What is your problem, doesn’t seem like you have stated it above.

Non-controllable will always give you “No Communication” because there is nothing to communicate with, this is deck control and there is no deck to control. When you have this set you start your device and the hit Capture Now in the Log and Capture, when done you hit escape and you have your clip/audio.

My problem is that the the audio signal – coming out through RCA – is not registering in FCP. For years, I have been easily able to capture from an analog source via the Canopus. The signal is running through – FCP recognizes the DV device and I can view the video externally on a monitor – but I can’t get FCP to recognize the sound.

I also tried it with a camera – the sound could be heard in the camera speaker – but again not in FCP. I could capture from a tape off the camera but could not use it to pass a signal through (which has also worked in the past).
