I’m always very reticent to do updates when my system is working fine. So I still haven’t done the Pro Apps Update 2008-5. Some people had some issues with it at the time of release a while ago. Is it safe to go in the water now?

While I’m at it… I also haven’t done the OS X 10.5.6 update or the QT 7.6 update. Can I feel free to go ahead with all of this? (I’m currently running fine with FCP 6.0.4 and QT 7.5.5. on my Octocore.)

    And NO! I don’t drive a 1977 VW bug!!

    Thanks for the guidance, folks.

    Hi Ron,
I have the last updates installed on Leopard in a MBP and a G5. No problems.
    I haven’t heard complains.

Be safe, be smart, clone your drive and then do the update. That way you have an instant back to the way it was. You can get 1TB drives for under a $100 so everyone should have a bootable backup drive.

Also seems to be better to download the updates verse doing it through Software Update.

Thanks for the guidance, gentleman. Cloning is underway now.

    Best,

I read about issues with QT 7.6 and Color, so I did the ProApp update, but not the QT update for our systems.

We’re running FCP 605, QT 755, and OS 10.5.5, and also 10.4.11 – both Intels and Quad-G5s, and we have not seen any issues in about 2 weeks.

Personally, I would stay away from QT and the OS, but I’m a chicken-sh*t when it comes to updates…

So far nothing here with QT 7.6 and Color. Just completed an 11 minute corporate project full of major color changes and lots of ColorFX nodes. That was on a Mac Pro Octo 3.2 with all the latest updates.

Not to say folks aren’t having problems, but so far nothing here to report on that particular setup.

If going 10.5.6, make sure to download the combo update from apple and don’t let system update download the point release.
