I have never tried to mix PAL and NTSC on a multicamera shot, nor would I ever try. Does he want an NTSC or PAL master at the end of the process?
The easiest framerates to deal with would be 24pA, on the DVX and 25p on the HVX. Shooting DV on both cameras. when then DVX is captured it will be 23.98P on the timeline.
The PAL will have to resize and get retimed, normally just changing the speed to make the footage play 24fps but that will mess up the sync with the audio from the other camera. I’m almost positive the multicam will not except different framerates.
I would rent another camera at a matching framerate.

50i is a PAL framerate (non North America)

If you state what you are doing it maybe easier to give advise. -
Firewire should always be active but you didn’t say what setting you have, 720p 24pN or 30pN cannot be sent out over Firewire. the Native frame reate setting is for P2 card only, have you tried other frame rates?

it would be a RAM issue as much hard drive through put issue for playback. You will be trying to pull 12 streams of video through it. Once you render it it will be fine. Once you get a couple of boxes set the way you want then disable the clip move on to the next couple get them set, disable them and… when you have all of them set enable all of them render and you will be able to play them back.
This would probably be easier to do in Motion, I know enough of Motion to do DVD menus and if you just read a little of the manual you can pick this type of thing up quickly.

I think there is A LOT of speed under the hood that is waiting to be unleashed, we just need software to take advantage of it. I think, think year we will see the software keep a big step forward performance wise. At least I hope we do.

that system will scream compared to the laptop. Get what you can afford and don’t look back. (as long as it is up for the task, and this is)

no it should not say anything other than “Current setting” don’t click on it. Also you want your exported video to have the frame rate of 23.98, the Compressor setting you listed is for video out (playback) but that is not what your setting should be for exporting a file via QT or Compressor (the program).

oh yeah, text and tv don’t fix well. think about all the text you see on tv, big and bold.

You do not want to use square pixels you want to use .9 for 4:3 video. You will have to do a little bit of cropping if you want it to be perfect (off top and bottom).

Have you tried just using “Current Settings”
