With the Duel and a FW800 I can get close to a 2GB/minute file transfer. I wish they would redesign that think with either a longer and more flexible cable or a right angle bend to it the length it is.

This is just not a difficult process if you take the time to learn each step of the way. You have several post and you are all over the place, the goal is not to just try settings but to learn and then try the correct settings.

You are changing codecs field order for no reason.

NEVER use QT conversion for going from an interlaced HD to SD codec and especially going down to DV before going to m2v for a DVD. You problem need to reinstall Compressor, I got you a link on how to do that over in the DVDSP forum.

It would be better to keep your problems contained in a single thread and problem in the DVDSP forum since your issue is really how to end up with a quality DVD. (Not that people in this forum cannot give advice with this).

If you do that you are in effect changing the field order to Upper first and get ready for a field order issue on TV screens.

Log and Transfer is not looking at any of the capture settings at all. All it is doing is converting the mxf file structure into a QT file. The codec is not converted unless you are bring in AVC-Intra, RED or AVCHD, other then these the codec of the camera is retained.

What camera are you shoot on? What codec and frame rate are listed in the bin for the clips?

Video tracks can have button overlays on them so they can act like a looping menu and that would bypass the 1GB limit.

Okay, for that short definitely do what I posted above. Export> With Compressor.

Make a new m2v preset in Compressor

File Format: MPEG-2
Extention: m2v
Stream Usage SD DVD

Settings:
VIDEO FORMAT TAB
Video Format: PAL
Frame Rate: 25
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Field Dominance: Upper

QUALITY TAB
Mode: One Pass CBR
Average Bit Rate: 7Mbps
Max. Bit Rate: will be grayed out
Motion Estimation: Good (does not come into play)

Leave GOP and EXTRA tabs as is.

Then use one of the Dolby Digital Professional 2.0 presets for the audio.

Encode this and you will have an audio and video file to bring into DVDSP, author a simple DVD with that. Stay away from iDVD if you want better quality.

The main thing you need to have the same is the version of FCP and the other studio apps if you are planning on opening projects back and forth. The drive doesn’t care about the OS and right now the latest version of the apps runs on both 10.5.x and 10.4.x.

Out of FCP if you Export to a quicktime movie for encoding make sure the “Current Settings” is what is selected but…

especially with HDV footage I found that if you export your timeline – Export> Using Compressor. This will send your seq to Compressor, there select the PAL DVD preset. give me the total length of all the video that will be on the DVD and I can suggest a bitrate.

The way is the slowest way to encode and it ties up Compressor and FCP for the entire process but you should see much better quality.
