    That is some great footage.

I have used the HVX200 for a while and just used the 170 a couple of times. FIrst difference is the weight, so much lighter without the tape deck.

Main difference, better chip (especially in low light)
wider angle on lens (con- shorter tele)
    HD/SD SDI out
LCD Viewfinder has scopes and a nice little focus assist on it

If you liked the 200 you will like the 170 (171) even better.

sounds like you have retimed the encoded footage, this is not a normal thing, there is a setting that is wrong. There is a frames tab in compressor and retiming is on the bottom, have you set anything there?

  • FW works for all DVCProHD, 1080i/p or 720p, but it is always over 60, which is what everthing is except for 720p 30pN and 24pN.

The manual and especially Barry Green’s book goes into the meaning of “over 60”

If you recorded to tape they are SD DV25. The only difference would be the frame rate 30i, 30p, 24p or 24pA are the possibilities but only one know which one you need.

March 18, 2009 at 2:25 am in reply to: Upgrading FCP 5.14 to FCP 6 Studio 2

One other feature I think make the upgrade worth it is auto-conforming timelines with the 1st clip place.

  • The highest safe max bitrate is 7.5 Mbps with replication and when using ac3 audio. With 3 hours of footage (need to include menus if they are video in this time) you can go upto 5.9 Mbps as long as you use ac3 audio at .192 Mbps.

  • Look at the clips info in the bin, how many audio channels does it say it has, what format are they.

But you really need to stop doing anything, you are just jumping around and not knowing where you have been or where you are going. Spend a day reading the camera’s manual (Barry Green’s book if you have that) and the manual for the Firestore. Once you have the settings down all this is pretty straight forward.

I just set up a friend with this software, and run into this. You can bring the m4v into FCE (4) and then export then from the Bin into DV (for SD) or AIC-HDV (for HD) then bring in those new files for editing.

The kicker is most people using this are moving up from iMovie, which handles m4v but all the conversion is happening under the hood.

Is this one clip that you are working with all Clip A, while it is transferring one set a new in and out and then add that same clip to the queue? Don’t know if that would cause a problem but just trying to see what you are doing.

Will other clips transfer? Have you tried clips from another content folder?

oh, another way that maybe a little quicker.

If you are dealing with a single shot, no stops and starts during the recording. You can match the seq TC to the clip’s TC. Then line them up. Then if you want to go to 4:39:19;00, you just type that into the TC box in the upper left of the timeline pane and hit enter and the play head will jump to that TC in the seq, which will also be the clip’s TC. When you do this you need to make sure nothing is selected on the timeline.

One feature I wish FCP had was a big TC window! (without have to drop a TCR on the clips)
