Eric, small correction, all DVDs are DVD-ROM, the CD-ROM is in contrast to an audio CD. What makes a playable DVD-Video is the fact that the DVD-ROM is formated as UDF instead of a Mac or PC disc. Then the folders and file structure have to follow the approved path. All this is handled by DVDSP with build and format. With programs like Toast you can do it incorrectly if you don’t know what you are doing.

FCP only accepts the TC coming from the 9-Pin deck control, not the LITC. If you need this to be active you have to use AJA’s Virtual VTR.
If you are controlling the deck that control has the TC of the tape coming through.

FCE is extremely limited on the codecs it can edit with. “.mov” is not the codec, DV, DVCPro50, DVCProHD, ProRes, HDV, and the like are the codecs. .mov just means it has a QT wrapper.
What codec do you capture your footage to and what is your normal Seq. preset in FCP

Not that it really matters but I’m pretty sure it is a 2GB limit. I could be wrong.

this is an odd one, if the Frame Controls is off, everything else should be grayed out.
Would have to see the project to figure this one out.

Use an HD timeline 1920×1080 is the largest size you can do in FCE or FCP. I think all the HD timelines are HDV – AIC.
If you want bigger movie resolution you will need to do to an FXs software like, Motion, AE, Combustion or Shake.

Low light – the key word is better THAN the original 200. It still suffers from a small chip. This camera still wants well light scenes.

The question is what codec do you want to work with. Every prosumer-professional out has a good work flow with FCP, small consumer cameras the record mp4 or to a DVD can be more trouble then they are worth.
I like and use Panasonic cameras and they have some very nice $5k and under cameras on the market.
What you are shooting lends itself more to what camera you are needing then editing concerns. The key is to learn the workflow before you are in the middle of a job.

I know that 1920×1080 29.97 ProRes files are going to take about 62GB/hr (93GB/hr for HQ). Seems like a look before hand would solve the problem. I would never fill any drive more than 90% no matter what it is going to be used for.

I really don’t recommend RAID storage for archive solutions. unless you are just talking about the FW800 drives that have 2 drives in the enclosure. Even with that LTO tape drives might be safer.
I probably would capture SD footage as SD. Then up-convert or down-convert as and when needed.
Codecs I would concider are:
DVCPro50 (this is 4:2:2 but is smaller files than ProRes)
Photo JPEG
SD ProRes (this is the least compatible going to non-FCP systems)my 2cents
