I buy a lot of drives from MWave.com or macsales.com (I get my RAM from macsales also). Any of the major dealers are fine.

Yeap, the capture presets have no bearing on transfers, why you may ask, well you are not capturing, you are transferring.

Look in the Log and Transfer Preferences and un-click the Remove Duplicate Frames and try to transfer the 29.97 clips and see if that fixes it.

How are you looking at this to judge quality. DV is a codec for TV, to judge that you need a TV connected to you system. Take this DV movie into QT Pro and try to encode it to H264. If you don’t have QT Pro you need to get it, it’s only $29.

Try exporting a version without these files. If it exports okay your answer is yes.You have to realize that once you start using formats that are not recommended you are “entering at your own risk.” FCE is a great product for what it does but it only deals with a couple of codec, you need to stay in these codecs. Transcode AVI clips (in QT Pro) to .mov DV and things will be much smoother. Get things right at the beginning of the project, in the long run it is almost always faster.

What were you shooting, 720p60 or 720p30? both will record to the tape and firestore as 59.94 but the 30p will have each frame recorded twice. These duplicate frames can be removed on record to the Firestore (PN setting) or on ingest into FCP.

I have never heard of anyone asking for this, in fact specs are going down all the time. One company is even fine with web size video. I would look at other CC companies.

Any will work nicely, the faster (8-core) will be much better for programs like Compressor and AE but most people feel that there is a lot of untapped power in the multi-core systems that will be untapped in the near future. The new OS coming out this year will be the start of it. So if you can afford it it will get certain things done faster, which is important, but at this time there is nothing that an 8-core can do that a quad cannot. The faster machine will have a longer life span also.
On the drives make sure they are business/workstation class or better. Take a look at 1.5 TB drives you can pick up 2 for less than $250.
My drive set up recommendation is small system drive whatever is standard (300-500GB fine) then a single drive for Time Machine (1.5TB) then 2 media drives and you can strip them together for a little more speed. $400 for the extra drives!
I also use a 10 drive array for my HD projects, 6-8 camera multicam projects.

So the clip in floating within the SD video frame, or used as a Pic in Pic type of deal.
How are you viewing this, on an external monitor, also is the timeline rendered when you are making this judgement call?
I feel you get the best results when using rounded numbers like 40 or 50%.

Okay I’m curious, these are genuine questions, why would anyone want to have the deck set like this? What would be the benefit of it? Would it not cause all sorts of problems for everyone down the road?
