  • Can AJA io HD capture at 24psf?

Posted by Juanjo Mora on April 9, 2009 at 1:47 am

Just received our new AJA io HD and with great surprise noticed that it seems to not be able to capture at 24p segmented frame from our HDCAM deck.

    Is this true?

    Please help.

    Regards,

it works just fine, I have been 1080 23.98 sf without issue since the beginning.

Since you did not say what is your issue?

The ioHD needs an intel processor for it to work. It will work on a G5 Quad, but definitely not on a G4.

    Hi Gary!

My issue is that it doesn’t seem to capture at exactly 24 progressive segmented frame… not 23.98

    Ok
24p is considered 23.98 (why do you think you need to do 24.0?)

You will need to load those specific settings settings during the driver install- they are not part of the base install.

Secondly you equipment details listed ARE NOT COMPATIBLE with the IoHD

this hardware device requires OSX 10.411 or later and fcp 6.0 or later and nothing else on the FW bus.

    Hi to everyone!

I’m very grateful for your answers and feedback.

Sorry about my old signature, here are the details for my equipment:

    MacPro
    2 x 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    4GB RAM
    4 x 1TB HDDs
    OS 10.5.6

Now, in stand alone mode I get the ioHD to input 24psf without problems, the reason I need exactly 24psf is that this system is integrated into a larger facility and the material we work here with comes from an HDCAM deck that is set to record and playback at 24psf, the house tri-level-sync is also 24psf…

Using the AJA ioHD Control Panel I have no trouble at all ‘inputing’ a 24psf signal into the ioHD.

It’s in FCP 6 where I have trouble: there is no preset for 1080@24psf, only to 23.98psf and when I input the HDCAM signal in that setting it just gets digital ‘garbage’…

The facility video engineer refuses to put the machine into 23.98psf mode (I know the machine can do that) and insists in working at 24psf…

Right now I’m downloading the latest drivers for AJA ioHD and the latest updates for FCP…

Will reinstall and look for specific settings for 24psf.

    Meanwhile any ideas?

Sorry for the long post! And again thank you vey much guys: I’m very grateful for all yur feedback and your fast answers.

    Regards,

    Jj

What part of you need to reinstall the driver to get 24.0 playback and setups for FCP did you miss.

24.0 IS NOT PART of the base install for the unit do to the rarity of use in most workflows.

    Thanks to everyone!

Talked with AJA support and what I want to do is just not possible, but found a workaround.

Okay I’m curious, these are genuine questions, why would anyone want to have the deck set like this? What would be the benefit of it? Would it not cause all sorts of problems for everyone down the road?

    Good Question Michael.

the 24.0 workflow has become increasingly rare- mainly due to one reason- it is impossible to monitor in SD in realtime ( SD is 29.97 and it would require a delay inaddition to adding pulldown to make it work)

24.0 is still common in scientific and speciality ( NASA works in round numbers to allow for easier sync with film captures.

In the HD realm it is fairly uncommon.
