there is no way this should be the way it works, like I said no HVX does this. If something is 16 feet away why would you have to focus to 18 feet and go past focus for it to end up in focus. If you slowly round the focus the numbers go crazy that is not inertia.

I have this come up years ago. I tracked it down to using a second monitor and the aja card. Installed the non desktop display version of the Aja card and that fixed the issue.

Encore is not available as a trial. probably has to do with licensing of some of the codecs but I’m just guessing as to why. You have to pay at least Premiere Pro to get to use Encode.

No you use a system that has a DVD burner, or buy a DVD burner for the new mini. Does because it doesn’t have one when you bought it doesn’t mean one won’t work on it.

Makes no sense but in fact that is the way it is. Found a lot of stuff on the web and had a few friend with 2011 MBPs test it out and sure enough this is the case. 85W cannot power the computer under the heaviest loads, it needs help from the battery. It is a small drain but if you leave your computer to do some all night compressing you maybe disappointed if you battery is not fully charged at the start.
Weird thing is Adobe Media Encoder pulls more from the CPU 100% across the board and seems to do better, You still get some lose.
Along with Compress taking it into the “battery assist” mode running hulu and other stuff can cause it.
It is a little frustrating because this new MBP is now my only system. I needed to go mobile and had to sell my 2007 Mac Pro. Proformance wise I’m happy I just have to do extra planning to make sure the juice don’t run out.
The $64K questions is will it get worse when a Thunderbolt RAID, monitor and extra HDD are attached. This is a fun time to be running Apple products.

DVD-5 is a single layer disc capacity of 4.7 GB; DVD-9 is a dual layer disc capacity of 8.5 GB. DVD-9 DVD+R DL are a lot more expensive if you are just burning one offs. You only go to a DVD-9 if you cannot fit your titles on a DVD-5.
But it is time for you to look through the manual of your software before you go much further.

No player will handle that, If you are replicating you can go as high as 8, 8.5Mbps on the video if you are making the audio ac3. But for DVD-R you really should not go higher than 7, 7.5 max.
Are you changing the GOP structure, adding more I-Frames than the default. If you are you need to reset it to the default GOP structure.

the software will run fine, with thunderbolt a lot of the short comings are removed (or will be removed). The screen is a little small for editing but you can always add a second monitor later.
If you pay on doing a lot of Motion or AE you will want to get as much ram as you can, once again this can be added after the fact.

There is no way early FCPer can be thought of as Youtubers. Even though it was a fraction of the cost of AVIDs or Discreet Edits, it was a serious outlay of cash. A FCP was still 5-10K. We were also doing work we where getting paid for. (Which is the definition of being a pro). Our goal was also to use the tools to put out work that looked as good as people using an AVID and BetaSP or DigiBeta cameras.
